Why do people say Nascar drivers are athletes? In order to be athletes, they have to be athletic. They are not, not all of them anyway. Why don't they ever do Charity Basketball games or anything that takes atheletisim? And don't tell me that I should go try driving, it might be hard to drive those cars, but you do not have to be athletic to drive a car. That is stupid. They are not athletes. I don't want any stupid asnwers from any stupid Nascar fans. Because I know they are not athletes, I just want to know your dumb reasons why you think they are.

Sorry...But Imo, NASCAR drivers/race car drivers are most certainly athletes. To endure (x) number of hours behind the wheel of cars going well over 200 mph takes a lot more endurance than you give the drivers credit for.
Plus...it's a well known fact, most, if not all drivers have a workout regimen that helps them to do what they do.
Now...if you want to see a non-athletic sport...look at Golf.

I will repeat one more time.. then i will start giving you thumbs down.
I already answered this question for you yesterday. It has to do with the fact that they drive with all that heat and with the G forces, and it takes skill and training to do that and have to be in good condition to go through it all.
And the most important reason they are athletes is what you your self said, ENough Experience which you do not have and would never make it, or you would be in the sport already.
Now go back to Formula 1 and leave us Nascar Fans alone.

If your so absolutely certain Nascar isnt a sport and they arent athletes then why are you wasting your time askingin the Sports>Auto Racing>Nascar section? Ill take the 2 points and thank you for being an uneducated person and not doing your own research.

Pull out your dictionary (the big book with lots of words...you will probably have to blow the dust off), and look up the words "athlete" and "sport"...you will discover that, according to all accepted definitions of both, NASCAR drivers are considered athletes and NASCAR itself is considered a sport.
If you wish to persist in your lack of understanding, then can I suggest that A) you don't bother to watch NASCAR, and B) you don't waste your time (and ours) by asking stupid questions

NASCAR is WAY more athletic than Baseball for sure and much tougher than basketball.
How would you know if you've never tried it. Your statement is purely speculation. NASCAR is one of the toughest sports.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Generally, the people that say NASCAR drivers are not athletic are uneducated and uninformed on the sport.

No they are not Athletes they are Professional Race Car Drivers. On ESPN recently they took a bunch of "Athletes" and had them try their hand at racing a real race car. Most of them lost their nerve at 130 mph. Elway who managed to do the best still fell waaayyyy short of the tracks average race speed.
No, NASCAR Drivers are not athletes they are Drivers and to be a Driver you need nerves of steel, reflexs far beyond that of any MLB Batter, and the courage to put your life on the line week and week out to do something you love.
I would never call a NASCAR Driver and Athlete because they are far beyond what any Athlete could be.

Dale Jarrett could quailify for his PGA card
Derrik Cope was a AAA baseball player

So yes NASCAR drivers are atheletes

Another person who doesn't know how to open a dictionary and read the entry for "athlete" or "sport" for themselves.
Athlete: a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina
Sport: a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in, something tossed or driven about in or as if in play.

People that know NASCAR laugh at basketball fans because we know our sport is WAY tough and much more athletic. Just the FACTS.
I can play Bball for hours, but could never drive a car that fast. Just to athletic.
