I'm a Roman Catholic, and I rarely waste my time with the "thumbs down" feature. And if people disagree with me, that's their business. I don't expect everyone to share my opinions.

Because the question was whether anyone had heard the pope preach the gospel; some took that to mean it was Catholic-bashing time. Perhaps there were some people who had bothered to actually listen to the pope at mass and hear him read from the gospel in question, as priests generally do during mass. It's merely a matter of an honest answer vs. a snide answer, particularly in the case of those who actually listen or follow up on such things rather than believe what others tell them about a faith they otherwise don't know much about. In this case, Father K's pretty knowledgeable on the subject, and has every right to defend or explain his beliefs if asked.

Once again, you show your anti-Catholic bias. All the "honest" answers were thumbs-down? That means you've already decided that any answer given by Catholics is wrong and only those answers agreeing with you are right.
If there's any venom anywhere, it's in the heart of people who hate Catholics and take every opportunity to bash us and our beliefs.

I do not believe that Catholics are any more prone to giving 'thumbs down' than other users. As a Protestant, I will give thumbs down to any answer that is accusatory, hateful, or not a sincere answer. It does not matter who the answer is directred towards.

Most of the questions directed towards the Catholic church are hateful, not insightful, which is why they get thumbs down

people of all religions tend to react when they are challenged about their beliefs and their religion. i think that it is bevause they don't really know about their religion and so they panic and panic leads to a fight. instead they should take it as a challenge to learn more about their religion. be it whether they are catholic, methodist, baptist, jewish, etc. there have been so many changes in the catholic church that many people don't seem sure what it stands for anymore. by the way i am a catholic.

I will answer with the thought in mind that I am writing on the Christian religion, please keep that in mind. All those who profess to be "Christian" are classified "foundationally" in to categories: one of free will, i.e., the individual has the ability to choose or not to choose to be a "Christian" and thereby if they choose to be a Christian they are capable within themselves to do good and GOD is obligated to bless them for doing good; the other is that all humans are depraved spiritually by the sin nature passed on to them through their parents: Adam and Eve, and such persons do not have the ability within themselves to do good spiritually in order for GOD to bless them for what they do. Like all those of the free will category, the Romans Catholics doctrinally proclaim that they have the ability within themselves to do good and GOD will bless them for doing good. "If" a Roman Catholic gives a thumbs down when a challenge question is asked of them, they will react no differently than all other free willers. They will insist that they have the ability within themselves to do good and, therefore, put on an indignent face if someone does not agree they they have a free will. Those who are not free willers are made by GOD to see their spiritually depraved natue, for which they then realize that within themselves there is no good, and they understand that by the Holy Ghost within them they must depend upon the Spirit of Christ within them for all richly blessing, to witness that it is GOD working in them to will and to do of HIS good pleasure. Those who are not free willers are blessed before they perform any good deeds by having the Spirit of Christ superadded without them thinking, saying, or doing anything to first get it, i.e., they are blessed "in" their deeds but not blessed "for" doing good deeds. I have never given a "thumbs down" to any message unless it was outright hateful, pornographic, etc. I welcome "challenges" to my faith, as they are invariably based on ignorance of my faith, and are opportunities to enlighten others and to correct misconceptions about God's Church. So please don't stop asking!
