The 'root' being the core.....
Satan the Devil.
Not to say man's greed* has no part in the matter.
We were created w/ 'free will.'
The Bible makes a clear distinction
between evil and evildoers.
* greed--can be of anything. $, power, control, etc....
EDIT: since the ppl are putting the verse;
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of injurious things, and by reaching out for this love some have been led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains.
a root--- 1 source.
all sorts of injuries---a variety of pains
reaching 4 it---making it prominent in ur life
led astray---u leaving God
stabbed themselves---cause ur own pains

Watch it people, this is a set up. I have dealt with this before and you all who said that the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil are correct that is what the bible says, but I believe this is the same guy who asked this question once before and I even quoted word for word the scripture and received an email saying that no one got it because no one understands the bible. But he refused to quote any scripture or stat what he thought it was, just blind accusations.
So be careful I think he may be a troll. I don't mind Christians making themselves look foolish, but come on y'all don't need any help do ya?
1 Timothy 6:10 is where you can find it. I think this person has some sort of warped demonitional doctrine he is trying to slip in.

Bible quote Ref.
1 Timothy 6:10
"..For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs..."
BUT the Root And Doorway to Heaven is JESUS CHRIST alone.

Money is A root, but not THE root.
When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the wilderness, He was tempted in 3 ways:
LUST - "if your hungry, turn this stone into bread"
PRIDE - "cast yourself down from here. The angels will save you."
GREED - "you can have all the world if you worship me"
Those are the roots of all evil.
I think PRIDE is the worst, it is what got Satan cast out of Heaven in the first place.
Isa 14:12 ¶ How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

God says the love of money is the root of all evil. Some say it is money is the root of all evil, but NO. Money can be used to do good and wonderful things for God. Love of money is the root of all evil, ppl wanting more and more, being greedy and materialistic.... that leads to all other sin.

The love of money and the material that goes with it<><
The money isn't evil, we need it to live, etc.
It is the "root" of all evil

The verse is not that the love of money is the root of all evil. The verse is, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Meaning, if you put the love of money first, it can have disastrous consequences. Not, that all evil comes from the love of money.

The root of all sin, in both man and angels, is the twin sin of unbelief and pride—the refusal to submit to God’s will as revealed by His own Word and the accompanying assertion of self-sufficiency which enthrones the creature and his own will in the place of God. This was the original sin of Satan, rejecting God’s Word and trying to become God himself. He said in his heart: “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: . . . I will be like the most High” (Isaiah 14:13,14).

Don't concern yourself with the root of evil is. The question you should be asking is how do we fight it?
