Spirits are with us always. It is only when we are most innocent, or most vulnerable, that our eyes are open to see them. That is why children believe in fairies, but adults believe they are not real. Same with imaginary friends (angels) and guardian angels. Those that are truly open to other worlds than this can be gifted with the ability to see their spirit guides even without a crisis involved.

In answer to Daniel's prayer an Angel was sent, but he was delayed three weeks due to a spiritual conflict.
The dead may be connected to the living through the Holy Spirit. Samuel appeared to Saul in the old testament. Moses and Elijah (though Elijah did not die) appeared to Jesus, Peter, James and John in the new testament.
The Holy Spirit remains when sent, but his activity seems to less ghostly, and more within the realm of the conscience...
mind, will and emotions...with some influence over the body, as well.

Angels yes. God sends them. As far as spirit guides, I'm not sure if that is real. but the Holy Spirit is all around us all the time. The Holy Spirit is God. I'm guessing by your question that you are a trinitarian.but the bible says that God is a spirit but not only that but God is just a title. And Jesus was the Holy Spirit wrapped in flesh. Jesus was God. and that was how he was able to forgive sins and such. But back to your question, The bible says that the Holy Spirit (God) fills the universe. you can't hide from God

Jesus reported, that he will constantly be with us, to the tip of the international. he's often with us. He sends the Holy Spirit to all human beings who've observed Him. the holy spirit is w/ you always,it is your connection to god. a spirit guide is also w/ you always and assist in your path of life. and angels are only there when they are needed most.

...I don't think they are "sent" to us so much as we choose to draw near to them...it's more like stepping into a river of life....this "river", being the spiritual realm, is always present...many times it's up to us to take the steps to draw near the water and "bask" in it's help, comfort and glory....as we grow in our Faith, we spend more and more time in, on or around the"river" and learn it's meaning and understanding it's gifts...
this is something I am just now beginning to remotely "grasp"...it's an awesome ride, I must say...
