My 22 month old Danny diagnosed with autism. Was happy, healthy and met all milestones up until February when he completely regressed. We are starting ABA and OT for him. Do you think I should refuse all his future vaccines. He is currently up to date. I tried to talk to my ped about this and she became angry and said not to blame her or vaccines for his autism. I was not blaming her or the vaccines. I just told her that I found out I was supposed to get handout pamplets before each vaccine and she never gave to me and I want to know what was in those vaccines especially since he had a triple vaccine in February that gave him fever, swollen leg and cried for two days. Any advice? I just do not want to risk harming my child any more than I may already have by getting all these vaccines.

You should always get full information regarding vaccinations. If your doctor does not wish to provide ahead of time, change doctors.

First thing I would do is change pediatricians. She should have given you the pamphlet information on the vaccines, and more importantly, she should not get angry at you when you were simply concerned about your child! You may want to ask around.... some pediatricians are better than others for kids on the spectrum. I got a recommendation from a friend of mine to the pediatrician I see now - he's great with my son, very understanding as he is very fidgety and its so hard to weigh him, take his blood pressure, etc. because he never sits still.

As for vaccines....when you get a new doctor, I'd talk about maybe spacing them out, where your son did have a bad reaction to the MMR one. I'm assuming your son will go on to preschool when he's three, and receive services through there... and it will be required that he's fully vaccinated. My son (now 4) didn't have any reactions to any vaccines, other than a mild fever after the MMR.... he's continued to have the rest of his vaccinations so far (which includes the MMR again at age 4) and they've had no adverse effects, my son continues to make remarkable progress.

I don't believe that vaccines cause autism..... however, that said, if I had another child, I would probably try spacing out the vaccines, if nothing else to hopefully decrease the risk of a reaction. Some kids have nasty reactions to the MMR in particular.

I hope this helps!!!

It shouldn't be too bad as long as you have them done sparingly. Attached is a website for a calculator to determine what vaccines you can have done together to reduce the amount of mercury your son is exposed to.

you should be able to ask your doctor for the schedule of vaccines, but the schedule doesn't have to be perfect. You can deny some or put them off if you think your son is receiving too much at one time. Doctors will try to talk you into having them all, but go by your belief. you have every right to.

Also, i would put money on it that the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine that he received that make him so sick could have been the largest factor in his autism. It is the only vaccine that the United States recognizes as a cause of autism. My brother had a similar reaction.

I know how it is with an autisitc child. My brother was diagnosed at age 2 and he is now 19. I love him very much and i appreciate having someone like him in my life because of how i think he made me a better person. here is a link to another question where i talk about him and what it can be like having such a unique person in your life.

Also, just so you know, the only known causes of Polio in the last 35 years has been rooted back to the polio vaccine. there are no known natural transmissions of this disease since the 1960s in Venezuela or something, and it was rooted back to a vaccine given to one little boy who went swimming and transmitted it to 26 other people who swam that day.

If your son is autistic he'll be in need of special education starting at the pre-k level and cannot be accepted into any public or private program without being fully vaccinated. It is a licensing requirement for educational institutions to have on record at all times a complete record of every child's vaccinations. Now that you know your child is more sensitive following trips to the doctor just be vigilant in your information gathering, but I wouldn't recommend stopping the vaccination process.

Do not refuse any future vaccines. Vaccines are (if uncomfortable) important for your son to stay alive. They are also so that if your son contracts some potentially fatal disease he doesn't spread it to everyone he interacts with.

Imagine your next door neighbors, the pregnant woman, the old couple, the child with diabetes, the three kids with asthma, everyone who shops at your grocery store, and Danny's extended family. Now imagine all of these people, Danny, and yourself all coughing until your tongue hangs out of your face and you turn purple all over. Ta daaaaa! You now have a Pertussis outbreak!.

If you have any further reservations about vaccinating your child, I recommend that you get a second opinion, and a third. All doctors will tell you the same thing: do it!

You should talk to a chiropractor, Vaccines for young kids can be very bad. When a child is young his brain is still developing and millions of neurons will develop until they are two & i say this because some of the childern shots have mercury in it! I know this may sound strange but do some research MD's have started to change to mercury free but plenty still have these old vaccines cause they are preserve in mercury (the mercury is listed under thymersol) which gives them this long shelf life. Many chiro's will tell you that if you even want to vaccinate your kids you should wait untill they are five when neuron development is not at such a critical point in the child’s life.
Side Note: Half the things they vaccinate for have had no case study foundings in years, and many kids dont get vaccinated and they turn out just perfectly fine.

Some of these idiots are going to tell you to vaccinate for their kids sake, well if they had half a brain they would know that their kids were vaccinated thus preventing them from getting sick from a dinosaur disease that is 1:1000000000 of getting. And other idiots will say that these vaccinations dont cause autism, but in fact autism has been increased since they have used mercury as a perseveration shots. Why else would they have started to make these changes.

Vaccinations is a money making business(30 billion) and mercury causes craziness. Hat makers and Dentist were at high risk for going insane for their use of mercury in early years. If we know that mercury cause brain damage, craziness and death why would we use it to preserve our vaccinations?(they have stopped due 98 review showing increase of autism) And if we know it causes all these bad things and know we have been giving them to kids for years and know that autism has been on a rise since the use of the preservative why wouldn’t half the medical world argue each other about it negative side effects to prevent law suits?????

You should really still continue the vaccinations. Plus he won't be able to attend school or day care with out them. There is one shot that does sting and will be sore for a couple days and may cause fever.

I'm sorry about his diagnosis of autism. my nephew has autism he is 3 and doing very well with his therapy. Good Luck to you!

Vaccines do not cause Autism.Numerous studies have debunked the theory. There was believed to be a link between the preservative thimerisol, but it was phased out in 1999-2000, and my son was born well after that. There has also been speculation about the MMR vaccine, my son displayed autistic tendencies before he recieved the MMR vaccine. my son was disgnossed at 19 months, and I continued the vaccines after his diagnosis. Consider yourself lucky, many children are diagnosed much older , and the earlier you start interventive therapies the better. My son is almost 6, and has almopst no lasting effects. Educate yourself, become your childs advocate and don't take anyones advice without researching it first. Good luck, and feel free to e-mail me if you want more advice.

Hi, my son is autistic he is 4 years old right now. I believe that your child should have his vaccine staggered. My son supposed to get six shots in one day but instead he only got one and he will get the rest of the shots one by one every two months. you might want to suggest that the mmr and varicella be done in single doses since they are a group shot. Also make sure they are thimerasol free. Its to be on the safe side. By the way I have read those research and my only concern about the research done on thimerosal is that the studies werent done on autistic kids but normal kids. if you have any question email me.

It is against the law now to not get the vaccines for your children. But your doctor broke the law as well by not giving you a pamplet on the vaccine she gave your child. My doctors always give them to you each time they give a new shot (even if it is a boster). Take your child to a new doctor that doesn't act like you are a problem to her. It is important that you can speak to the doctor you use concerning your child. Also the vaccine numbers are suppose to be recorded so if there is anything wrong with the vaccine batch they have a record of all the children given it out of the batch.
