Why are some BFs willing to buy jewelry for their GFs, expensive or not? In general, does it mean the guy is very into the girl and the relationship? My bf of 1 mth just bought me a crystal bracelet in my favorite color from China during his trip, and I was pretty surprised because jewelry as a gift has a special meaning to me (meaning commitment) but I'd like to see other people's opinion as well. Would guys still ever buy jewelry for girls they aren't serious about?

Actually, We dated for 2 mths + 1 mth of being official. He thought of it since I broke my fav bracelet about a mth ago, but I didn't expect him to decide to find a replacement for me, because once again, jewelry to me has a lot of meaning.

Well.... if a guy buys you jewelery after one month for that amount....he probably believes you 2 have a strong bond...and will last a long time....
cause like me....i bought my girlfriend a 14K pendent necklace ( for more than you think)....and we had only been going out for 3 months...but I did it...because i really thought the relationiship was going to last....
so...no....i wouldn't buy jewelery for a girl that i wasn't serious about....

When a guy buys a girl a piece of jewelry, the word commitment is NOT in their head. They buy jewelry because they like the girl and want to give her something.
The only jewelty that signifies commitment is a promise ring, engagement ring, wedding ring OR perhaps his high school ring.
It's obvious that he likes you and thought of you and for that, you should be thrilled rather than questioning his purpose.

Only if it gets me laid.....just kidding...:)
No, the only time I have bought jewelry is either while I was in a a committed relationship, or trying to cement a committment in a relationship.
Rings I stay away from, but necklaces and bracelets will win the hearts of women 9 out of 10 times.....:)

I would actually be cautious of a BF that bought me jewelry 1 month in! Sounds like he wants to keep you close, maybe so you don't always see the obvious...so you'll be more prone to look the other way if somethings not right...
I'd be suspicious of what his motives are.

Younger guys buy jewelry to impress the girl, and expect the girl to be their g/f for as long as the guy wants.
Older guys buy jewelry because they feel the girl would cherish the item and think of the guy whenever the girl see it.

Guys buy jewelry for girls that they really like and want to impress. If they have the cash, they will buy jewelry for all the girls they like.

Yea but it depends on the jewerly, if it's something expensive then that means they really really care but if it's just a little something like a 2 dollar ring or 2 dollar bracelet then they're just being sweet. =)

hey it was a traveling gift, probably didnt cost as much as youd think. also it doesnt mean anything really, cause a guy can buy you jewelry just to buy you off, i wouldnt think anything more or less of him for it, he is thoughful however, at least at this time.

Look at it from his perspective! He knows your favorite color and whatnot. So in China, he probably saw the necklace and thought of you. Bing bing! he thought of you- wants to buy it for you because he loves you- he imagines you wearing it, and imagines your happy face from getting the thing. Sounds serious to me
