Armageddon? Thank God for that! I thought for a moment it might be global warming.

Isn't that Britain just being Britain?
To be a sign of the end of this wicked system---NOT the end of the world, planet--the sign needs to be worldwide and worse than elsewhere in history. Rain worldwide for example.
Pandemic disease like Spanish Flu in 1918 that killed several millions. World wide wars involving every country. If you think the Swiss are neutral, ask the Nazis or the Jews getting their stolen money stolen by Swiss bankers.
The "Witness" was joking. Humor helps to endure.

A neighbour (Jehovah Witness) said the world was going to end a few years back. It didn't happen.
No doubt the world will end at some point. So. Are they saying anything we don't know. Plenty of people with or without whatever denomination are concerned about our environment.

Perhaps because the Governing Body managed to create a legal loophole for themselves as explained in the January 15, 2001 Watchtower magazine? An article called "How the Governing Body Differs From a Legal Corporation" had 4 pages of explanation including "A Special Announcement" at the end. It makes for interesting reading in light of the developing Australian situation! It dealt with the recently changed 'rule' that only members of the 'anointed' class be appointed as directors and officers of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania. There had only been one exception to that rule, in 1940 when Hayden Covington - a member of the 'other sheep' class - was elected a director and vice-president. He stepped aside in 1945 because of that rule. It then showed how moves were made to stop identifying the board of directors and officers of the Pennsylvania corporation with the Governing Body. The charter had six amendments made on October 2, 1944 but a vital question still remained; could the Governing Body never be comprised of more than seven 'anointed' JWs?, and were not the voting members of the corporation choosing who should be in the Governing Body? This was dealt with in 1971. This stopped members of the GB being voted into office by the membership of a legal corporation. A speaker at that meeting said: "The GB does not have officers such as the Society's Board of Directors has... It has merely a chairman." No longer would the foremost member of the GB be president of the Pennsylvania corporation. All GB members would be equal in responsibility. "At that unforgettable annual meeting in 1971, a distinction was clearly drawn between the spirit-anointed members of the GB and the directors of the Pennsylvania corporation." And the article went on to say why directors of the WTB&TS of Pennsylvania need not be members of the GB. There are other legal entities used by JWs. there's the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Incorporated. In Britain, The International Bible Students Association is used. And there are different legal entities used in other lands. The article concluded, "As long as conditions in this world permit, the GB, representing 'the faithful and discreet slave,' will make use of legal entities. There are convenient, but they are not indispensable. If a legal entity is dissolved by government decree, the preaching work will still go on." Then came "A Special Announcement": "At the conclusion of the annual meeting of the WTB&TS of Pennsylvania on October 7, 2000, a special announcement was made by the chairman, John E. Barr of the Governing Body..."The faithful and discreet slave and its Governing Body have had entrusted to them interests that are higher and far more encompassing than those granted to legal corporations... Still, it [the WTB&TS of Pennsylvania] is merely a legal instrument available for use by 'the faithful and discreet slave' when it is necessary." "Brother Barr told the audience that recently certain members of the GB of JsWs who had been serving as directors and officers voluntarily stepped aside from the boards of directors of all the corporations used by 'the faithful and discreet slave' in the United States. Responsible brothers of the other sheep class were elected as replacements... While various legal and administrative duties have been assigned to experienced overseers, ...all of them serve under the spiritual direction of the GB." Now, while all this was designed to deal with the logistical problem of 'anointed' brothers dying off to an alarming degree come the turn of the century, it should be noted that the GB has effectively separated itself LEGALLY from their various legal corporations. Men of the 'other sheep' class will have to carry the can for legal difficulties. That is why Australian JWs are having to take the heat for policies that the GB is responsible for, but, apparently, not accountable for.

A 'pang of distress' maybe. But God told Noah that he would not destroy the world again by means of a flood. I don't think Armageddon will be localised in parts of England anyway ;-)

didn't really understand your statement.
wasn't there for your conversation
we witnesses worldwide do feel that we are living in the last days and God's war of Armageddon is close at hand.
to get a better understanding of what was said to you, it might be wise to ask that individual yourself.
