What kind of wheat is 'Cracked' wheat?

Whole wheat kernels that have been broken. If you've ever had bulghur, it's very similar. Although bulghur wheat is partly cooked when you buy it, I'm not sure if cracked wheat is. It gives breads & other foods a nice heartiness.
