I think blue or red shades would look gorgeous with your kitchen. Try wallpaper designs along the top strip and then a shade of paint that always looks gorgeous. Black marble countertops always look good with those colours, but of course you don't have to go buy them.
If you do install them though it be a great idea to stain your pine cabinets to a darker hazel brown colour. Here are some ideas for shades for your walls
(Both of these shades look good with anything white so if you have white tiles on the ground that would look awsome)

Dusty aqua blue is very hot right now. It's trending torwards both the very soft greens and also towards the newer shades of grey. Also chocolates, coffees, and mochas are beautiful with these colors, as well as lighter linen tones.

Stainless steel kitchen appliances are still popular. Black kitchen sinks are in. Granite counter tops that have an earthy look to them (brown, dark green). Light colored hardwood flooring.
Not sure where blue would fit in. Maybe paint one accent wall?

blues and greens are really in on HGTV. they often add some khaki or coffee to the mix.
Also, in our area a lot of people are doing the primitive/country things with reds and tans
I personally hate themes, but I have seen a lot of palm trees in Wal.

What color are your countertops? If they are dark granite, you may want to consider a light shade of yellow. It will accent the floor and cabinets.
