Why do some Christians get involved with the occult by consulting psychics who claim to be "Christian"?

I've heard that such psychics as: John Edward, Char Margolis, and Sylvian Browne claim to be Christian, some even claiming that their gift comes from the Holy Spirit working through them.

Don't all Christians realize that even the demons aren't above using God's name, or even Scripture, to trap the unweary--even believers? In fact, in Acts 16: 16-18, we find the Apostle Paul exorcising a demon from a girl who was following him around proclaiming him to be a messenger of God. The demons were making her say these things, even if what she was saying was true.

Why, then, are some so clueless, and why do some use such spiritistic avenues, that are so expressedly forbidden in God's word??? Furthermore, why do some subscribe to "New Ageism" and other belief systems that are rooted in the occult and are completely incompatible with the Gospel according to Scripture?

Pray and fast.

Ask God to fill you.

There are the people that are obvious. These are the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Most are much more subtle and conniving.

Keep in mind a grace filled Christian has dominion over these through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

I proclaim Jesus as the Christ, Messiah, and Lord. I have been baptized. I am as you under the discipleship of Christ.

Let God take care of what you can not. I totally and completely trust that God will expose and bring to ruin those that are pretenders.

Well first off, if you're posting in Yahoo answers, expect answers from EVERYONE, this includes people of your faith and others. I am an atheist, and I'm certainly not going to go off on you for having a religion. To your question, it seems like she's involved in some kind of paganistic views. The way she is acting corresponds to perhaps LaVeyan Satanism or Qliphoth. You can do one of two things. 1. Talk to her. Ask her why she is doing these things. If she doesn't give satisfactory answrs (i.e. "I don't know what you're talking about"), press a bit and present your evidence. If this knowledge disturbs you, there's really nothing you can do. It's a free country after all. 2. Let her do as she wants. Is she hurting people? Is she prejudiced? If no, then she is free to practice as she pleases. But, as your daughter is under 18, you have control. But, from experience as a devout Roman Catholic until the age of 22, preaching does not work and actually pushes her farther away. Hope this helped a bit.

Prove it isn't from God. If we're going to drum up scripture from the Bible, I would point you to Daniel who interpretted dreams (among other). Revelation itself is a dream which Christians interpret constantly. New Test, especially Revelation, shows that people have several different types of gifts which are all used differently by different people. It is only in Modern times that we see people claiming all of that stuff, like some of what you listed here, as Occult simply based on words like "psychic". And it's hardly New Age... these things are older than Christianity by far... it's simply being looked at closer. But to just lump it all together because someone says the word "psychic" into a generalized term such as "occult" (please look this word up.... basically it just means hidden or mystery... and many times people claim things like the speaking in tongues and prophecy to be MYSTERIES of God) and making it out to be something bad without even honestly looking at the people involved. Society in general seems to lean on these types of generalizations and it's no wonder the people who do end up being called bigots... it's no different than what extremely racist people do to those races they don't like.

I get this all of the time while I am working on Christian clients...
They are into the occult and astrology...when you point out to them that Astrology is forbidden by the sscriptures, they think you are wacko!

I can't tell you how many times that a christian has asked me what sign I am....I kindly explain that that is forbidden by scripture and they tell me to Lighten up...

The Bible has a mixed message if you look closely. Omens, dreams, ghosts, visions. You can find justification for anything you want if that's what you're looking for. Look at Saul consulting with the ghost of Samuel. Nothing in there says it wasn't a real ghost, for example.

I'd say because they are searching for something, and that it is their right. It really doesn't bother me in the least, but it seems to have affected you greatly.
