It found a trojan horse pack and tried to heal it but i couldn't so what should i do? I deleted it in the end, is that a good thing to do? It was a python 2.2.3 program.

What is a better anti virus program as well as a anti-spyware one.

AOL Active Virus Shield powered by Kaspersky is currently the best free anti-virus (99.62% detection rate). The most popular free anti virus programs are AVG Free and Avast which are recommended above Norton and McAfee but have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans. If you want to pay for an anti-virus NOD32 is highly recommended.

As for anti-spyware programs, you should use Ad-aware and Spybot.

Python 2.2.3 is not a trojan or malware. It is, in fact, a programming language for writing software.
I have been using AVG for 3 years on two heavily used computers without any problems and have recommended it to others. All Anti Virus programs occasionally return a false positive i.e. identify something as a possible threat when it isn't.
I would suggest that, if you have no other protection you download Spybot Search And Destroy from the link below.

The free version of AVG not state-of-the-art. Personally, I wouldn't have too much confidence in it. If you watch the weekly ads in your Sunday paper, you will find weekly deals with very good deals around holidays. I was able to pick up Norton 2007 - 3 license - for $9.99. Can't beat that.

I would suggest you get a good antivirus program like McAfee or Norton and run it in Safe Mode. Hopefully, this will catch any self-executable files. Then, Restart, and see how it goes.

I also use Ad-aware - which is free and pretty good at removing tracking cookies, etc. You can download it at:

Hello,

you did the right thing to delete the virus if you do not have protections.

AVG is a good place to start, otherwise Avast is also good and free, then you can install Spyboot S&N wich is a powerfull antipest. you can run Spyboot and antivirus toghether but not AVG and Avast on the same machine:-)

all the above are free and latest releases also available @ http://pcshouts.wetpaint.com/

Deleting it was the way to go. Run AVG again to check.
AVG is fine, I found it better than McAfee and it's free. You can also get AVG free anti-spyware.

McAfee and Symantec both offer really great anti-virus & anti-spyware programs.

AVG Anti-Virus is a good virus program also!
