I'm not trying to be antagnostic. I honestly don't understand the motive that they have when they ask questions that appear to be insulting or naive. Are they just curious or do they simply want to start arguements with people?

Yes, I know that Christians and other groups of different people are just as guilty when it comes to this sort of thing and I agree that many fellow religious people need to study their Bible more, before telling others how to live - people in general, it seems, need to be more educated in their area of their personal beliefs...including myself. Thank you all for you honesty. I for one, want to understand others.

Better to ask the question in general- does anyone here ask questions because they genuinely care about people's opinions? Usually not. Whether atheist, christian, muslem, pagan, etc., most askers aren't asking to learn anything. Most are asking as a form of stating their opinion and, when judging the answers, select the answers that agree with them.
Rarely does anyone really want to know what others think here. Whether it's an argument, a sermon or a joke- most questions here are rhetorical. A small percentage of questioners do seriously want to know people's opinions. No group seems any more sincere in asking questions than any other group. It's an individual thing.

Dave is right.
Christians tend to make quotes that are not even in the bible. Atheists sometimes ask questions just to prove that Christians indeed do NOT know what they are talking about and just following blindly behind someone else beliefs.
Christians do not listen to the truth even when it is presented to them using their own book and their own "god's words".
I don't think Atheists really want to tick Christians off, more open their eyes to how ridiculous they sound thinking they know it all when in fact they know nothing! I have found that Atheists are more knowledgeable about the bible than those who claim to be Christan's.

They bring out the problems with what religion wants people to believe. For instance: How did Noah get to the Amazon Rain Forest in order to gather many of the 1 million different species of insects? And where did he keep them on board the Arc? This story is not the word of God, unless He didn't know better, and the religious leaders know it

Look up my questions. I usually use quotes of what people say.
Honestly, look at the first five or so people who answered and notice a theme? Those answerers are all biased. Atheism is the singularly most hated way of life in America. Everywhere else in the world they realize how true it is.

To learn motives, to correct illogical thought, to insult. All sorts of reasons really. To be fair though, you christians have your share of idiots and bigots too.
Agnostic here, but I hang around because I like to talk about religion. Sometimes I may joke about it, but a legitimate question I'll answer the best I can.

It's a split, and it's the same on the other side. Some ask because they honestly want to know, and some ask to incite flames, because they're trolls. You have them in every group.

I don't ask Christians questions here. I'm more interested in other atheists and non-believers. But, why are you focusing on atheists? There are Christians here that do the same.

We ask questions to understand how and why they think the way they do.
Sometimes a question may sound to be antagonistic but Christians at least MOST tend to be more harsh on us who do not believe in a god and do not believe in religion.

if you want to be a good christian, wouldn't it be correct to just answer them and 'turn the other cheek'? i think even if they seem to be insulting--they may just be curious. answer them or not--that is up to you, but do what you will and move on from it. don't let it bother you in either direction.

The same question could be asked in reverse (Do Christians ask Atheists...) with probably the same results.
