Ok, according to my Thai friends this school is the equivalent of a community college in Thailand... but is it a good enough school that I won't have any problems teaching English in Thailand after I graduate? I want to go through the proper steps to teach there, and a degree sounds like an important thing to have, but I also want to be taken seriously. Will I have any problems acquiring a work permit and teaching license if I attend this school? Anyone have any idea? :) Thanks

A teaching degree is necessary to be able to teach at the better schools and to get the better (and higher paying)teaching jobs in Thailand. Ramkhamhaeng University offers a fully accredited teaching program and offers all the credentials you will need to be able to secure a good job here. They also offer masters and Phd programs in education. Ramkhamhaeng is Thailand's largest public university and maybe is not as prestigious as a degree from the top private universities as it offers education to those who may not be able to afford it otherwise. But from what I understand, it is a good school that will offer you all the proper credentials to teach anywhere that requires a degree. I think just the fact that you have the initiative to get a degree from a Thai university will give you a big advantage in your career no matter what university you attend. Good luck.

You will find that a degree is very helpful and not totally necessary. They are so desperate for teachers that many times they wave the requirement for a degree entirely. Now a degree will get you a higher pay check. My friend recently applied for a position in Danang Vietnam. They wanted his paperwork and he said that it had been lost in the flooding of last year. He apologized and got up to leave and their whole attitude changed. They asked him if he could start the next day and offered a $10 US starting salary with immediate rises if he was good at the job. Now depending on the area a degree can be very helpful. Taiwan is paying about $40 to $50 and hour, Korea is paying in the $35 an hour range. My friend in Korea is making huge money doing private lessons.
Your Ramkhamhaeng University degree will serve you well. Good luck.

Ramkhamhaeng University is a so-called "open university", i. e., admission is easier than to other public universities. It is Thailand's largest university (not merely a community college) and is thus well-known.

A degree from Ram is more than you need to get a TOEFL teaching job.
