>>What is the whole Roman Catholic religion about?<<

Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Everything in Catholicism is about Jesus.

I applaud your willingness to research Catholicism. May I recommend the Catholic Home Study Service? It is excellent and free.

I also recommend you read "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott Hahn, a Presbyterian minister who converted to Catholicism. You can probably find it in your local public library. You can also find a shorter version of his conversion story here:

Allow me to correct some errors. First of all Protestants and Catholics alike believe in St. Mary as the blessed mother of our Lord and Savior. We do not pray to God through her but we do ask her to pray for us as we do all members of the Church. The pope is the first among equals and the patriarch of the Western Church. Catholics use the Bible as it was originally canonized by the Christian Church which includes the OT books called the Deuterocanonicals. Catholics do not use the apocryphal books but have instead banned many of them from use. (see pope Gelasius) The Christian OT canon is the canon of the Essene/diaspora Jews used by Catholics while the Protestants use the Pharisaical canon declared after the crucifixion of our Lord at the Jewish Pharisaical Council of Jamnia in response to the threat of Christianity. Catholics do believe in purgatory because of the Biblical teaching that we are to pray for those who have passed on and the Biblical teaching that we must be purified before being in the presence of God. Purgatory is the place in heaven where this purification takes place. Catholics do not pray to saints but instead ask saints to pray for us.

Apostolic succession is not a heresy but a teaching of the Church recorded throughout the Book of Acts and the teaching of the Church fathers.

In Christ

Roman Catholics are also Christians, we believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit..It is one of the oldest religions of all time. A very strict and powerful religion...I was raised catholic, and have done some researching, and from personal experiences know that it is the right one for me. I have a friend that was an atheist...while doing some researching, experienced a miracle that changed his life forever, and is now Catholic. While being a very challenging religion, you will find that, the power of faith can overcome just about anything........................

In a summary the Catholic church belives as stated in the creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary , and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

For historical information, were we stand and how we are organized you can get into the official website :http://www.vatican.va
And a priest should be of help too.

The Catholic Faith is about being true to the stated will of God, "that they all may be ONE". History plainly reveals that the Catholic Church is the one Church founded by Jesus Christ for all mankind. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Catholic Church remains united in belief, united in teaching, united in worship and united in administration after 2,000 years, something no manmade organization has ever come close to achieving. In contrast, manmade denominational religion has fragmented into thousands of conflicting denominations in just a few hundred years. The Catholic Church teaches the fullness of Christian truth with full authority, just as it has done from apostolic times, accepting the divine promise, "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven". Modern day denominational churches teach some truth, retained from their Catholic roots, but mixed with new traditions of men that no apostle ever heard of, invented by their various human founders. The Catholic Church assumes its rightful role as "pillar and foundation of truth", just as the Bible descxribes it, while denominational churches try to force the Bible to be the foundation of truth, which it can never be without the infallible interpretation of the Church which produced it. The result is 500 years of doctrinal chaos. The Catholic Church is the Church Jesus Christ founded for all mankind. It is the Church He founded for YOU. It is the only Church founded by Christ, and the only Church approved by Him. All others exist in open violation of the stated will of God, "that they all may be ONE".

The belief in the Holy Trinity & that the Pope is the head of the Church. He is Christ's representative on earth. Also that the Eucharist is in a real sense the body of Christ. (Not a symbol of).

To me, the heart of Catholicism is the Mass and the Eucharist. In the Mass, we hear the Word of God taught, and we prepare ourselves to receive Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Since we believe that Jesus is wholly present, Body and Blood, Communion is a special time to spend with the Lord in praise and worship. It also draws us closer to our brothers and sisters in Christ, since they, too, share in the Lord's Body and Blood.

I love the beauty of the Liturgy and the sense of belonging to a faith that's been passed down unbroken from the days of the apostles themselves. Catholicism is a beautiful faith, and I hope you find the spiritual peace and joy in the Church that I have.
