Pilots have more room to stretch their legs. They also have co-pilots, so they can get up and walk about a bit during long-haul flights. It also helps that they are not allowed to drink alcohol whilst flying as this appears to be a factor. It is still technically possible for them to get DVT though, and actually not many passengers get it really- there is an accepted link, but the incidence of DVT clearly linked to flying is so low that it's pretty difficult to accurately measure.

Pilots are in exceptional physical health. They are given physical exams every 6 months to keep their qualifications and must meet strict standards.
DVT is extremely rare among passengers and only occurs in those passengers with a predisposition to this type of illness. A healthy passenger has nothing to worry about.

The occurance of DVT in passengers is seriously over hyped by the media.

Pilots get to get up, stretch their legs and talk to passengers. Then go upstairs and have cocktails in the bar. It is however, considered bad form for
both of them to be seen in the bar at the same time. This is thought to generally unsettle the passengers. However, I like to put my faith in technology. On a long flight with little to do, why shouldn't they unwind a bit?

Is it proven that they don't? There is a schoold of thought that on every flight everyone gets some kind of clots but that the body handles them with no issue.
Jetstream - Pilots in exceptional physical shape !?!?! Err I hardly think so, the medical checks and tests are far from up there at Olympic level and you only have to look at a lot of them to see that they are not in the best of shape. One of my best friends is a captain for a major airline and he is way overweight and defionitely far from fit..

They don't? Maybe it's because they walk around when the plane is on auto pilot, or when the co-pilot takes over the flying and vis versa.

The training I received last year recommended that we get up and move around, even if only a very little, on long flights. Obviously, only one of us at a time. (I haven't heard of any actual occurrences of it and none were cited in training, except for non-aviation examples.)
