How do you get closer to god?

Its a simple question. Im a catholic and want to get closer to god for several reasons.

Become a good listener. Work on your relationships with other people.

Dont think that you can have a meaning full relationship with an unseen spiritual being whose nature is beyond your comprehension if you cant have a relationship with his creation.

Have you ever noticed that the people that you would say are truly spiritual, always seem to have excellent people skills and small egos. They seem to have an ability to care deeply for people without caring much what people think about them.

Learn how to become a better friend to your neighbor and the relationship with God will follow. I once asked a wonderful man who is gone now, how do I find my contact with God. He laughed and said, "I was looking for what I was looking with".

Being Catholic is rather a "Handicap" but can be overcome! First, Realize, that if U do this, U WILL BE Excommunicated by the church. Reason is, that they want U to be "Closer to Them", Not God or Christ!!! Trust me, "I've Been There & Done That"!!! When (after being Raised Catholic for 16 years of my life) I came to know the Lord & Accepted Christ as My Savior! I had the "New Priest" come to my house (when my nosy Catholic neighbor told them) to tell me that the church was going to "Excommunicate" Me!!! For 2 years both my Brother & I had been BEGGING the priests,nuns & lay people of our church to come & counsel our Parents (my Mother was Dying) but we were told that because theirs was a "Mixed Marriage" they wouldn't come. So when this dude shows up telling me this crap, I asked him just how Much More "Excommunicated" did he think he could U make Us & I ran him out of the House!!! So why couldn't the church be happy for my "Drawing Closer" to God by Finding His Son Jesus??? Now to Ur Question Dear. I don't know if U are a Christian or not, but that is the First "Step" because Until U do, God doesn't even hear Ur Prayers!!! The First Prayer God can hear is the one where U Accept Christ & Ask for Forgiveness of Ur Sins!!! This then makes U a "Believer Priest" and a Member of the Royal Family of God!!! This is being Saved. As a Member of the Family U have Become Ur own Priest answering Directly to God!!! U Don't have to "Jump through the church Hoops" anymore, or do any "Good Works" to get into Heaven, Ur already there (which is why the church wants to keep U Ignorant, they Lose $$$)!!! Read the Scriptures to Learn about God & the Way He Works & How He wants Us to Worship Him!!! Stay Devoted to "Finding the Truth" & U Will "Draw Close" to God. John

First of all give God Glory! Like: Spell God with a cap. letter!
He deserves that! Read the Bible. The Bible is a Love Letter to you. So we need to read it! Pray.... because this is the way we communicate with God our Father! Attend the church of your choice. Be faithful! Try to reframe from sin! Let Jesus be the Lord of your life! No matter what church you go to, follow these steps and you get closer to God!

Getting close to God is more simple than a lot of people make it out to be. Daily prayer and the reading of his word help immensely! Also the content of your prayer makes a difference. Not only asking for things but also giving praise & worship. God will always be there for you. Even when u fall he'll be waiting for u to come back to him. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of GOD!

By spending time with Him, and reading His word; the Bible.
By talking to Him; prayer.
By going to a good Bible teaching Church to have the word explained, and learn new ways to apply His word to your daily life, and the choices you will have to make.
By finding a group of believers who can offer help when needed, give you support, and will pray with you, and for you.

It's like a friendship; if you rarely talk to your friend, never visit his/her house; spend little or no time with them, how well do you think you will get to know them, or form a closer relationship?

Get a King James version Bible and read it for yourself.Pray and ask the Lord to open your understanding to it.The more you know about God the closer you can get to Him.You can have a personal relationship with Him,talk to Him and He will answer you.

Seek more spiritual things in life.
If we are in a transition of putting away the flesh and following the spirit, this is the
actual interpretation of being reborn.
But we tend to follow the flesh thinking its the spirit ending in more feats of depression
and problems with the flesh overriding the spirit.

It's comforting to know that God wants a close relationship with you too.
Prayer is a good way to strengthen your relationship with the Lord. Try to put some time aside every day to read the bible, and talk to the Lord about everything.

First, believe in your heart that he sent his son to die on the cross for our sins. Then read, read, read the bible. I like to tell people to start in the book of Proverbs, because that is one of the best places where God tells us what we should and should not do. If you truly want to be close to him, read and pray, often. Cool 64.
