Wow. Apparently at 18 cards are bad. No, they are not. Unless you are irresponsible. My boyfriend got his first credit card when he was 18 I got mine when I was 19. We are now 21 and have good credit for our age. I was able to finance a brand new car all by myself at the age of 20 with 6.5% APR and NO CoSigner needed. It's all about being responsible. If you feel you can HONESTLY handle a credit card (many young people can not) then go get one. Be sure that there are no annual fees and you could probably try for a student Credit card through your bank. Also, although APR is VERY important if you pay the card off evey month then that part of the card really matters less. The main thing is responsibility. If you can handle it(you have a job and can easily pay your bills) then go for it. If not, then you should probably wait. Just FYI, my first credit card was a Chase card.

Yes i agree stay away from credit cards..if u must get one its best to either get one through the bank u have or shop around for the lowest interest rate u can find. Now be aware that the credit card u get may have a revolving door clause..which means u may pay ur credit card on time every month but then late on another bill. The credit card can then jack up ur interest rate cause they think u are a liability. If u do get one only charge a small amount and pay it off each time. It helps build up ur credit. Trust me i totally screwed my self up at 18.

If you have a checking account, you should get a Debit Card. An 18 year old with a credit card only sounds like trouble to me. With a Debit Card, when you pay for something it is taken out of your checking account. Also, a Debit Card can be used as a Credit Card (I shouldn't have said that). I'm 18 also, and I have had my Debit Card for over 3 years and have never used it for Credit and I probably never will.

Student credit cards offer good benefits, but there are many of them out there. Here's a review of the top ones, from a college student's perspective:

I would advise to stay away from Credit Cards, if you can.
Especially at that age. Can start bad habits.
[Never mind the debt you can be pushed into.]

If you have a bank account get one from your bank...then you can get it tied to your account...But, if I can be honest with you...Don't get one!!! They suck...Unless of course you don't spend much on a monthly basis!!! Once you apply for a credit card sometimes it goes on your credit score...and once its on there it's there...
