From a literal interpretation of scripture...if you do not turn from your supposed sin, you say you will go to hell...So,

-Considering the divorce rate is over 50%, and these people probably do not turn from sin by remaining celibate

-10% of the population is gay

-most in the U.S. are obese, and if you die fat, you obviously did not turn from your sin of gluttony

-many have filed bankruptcy or defaulted on student loans or credit cards, (biggie sin... 10 commandments of stealing)..and if you never repay this debt...you never turned from your sin.

So, all of the above people will go to hell if you believe fundamentally in scripture...so, who is left?

Looks like heaven will be a lonely place...your thoughts?

So, you are saying that all of these supposed sinners are going to heaven as long as they say they are sorry...even if they continue to "live in their sin"

You just hit the nail on the head! Congratulations for pointing out this obvious form of hypocrisy. For the anti-gay movement, all the sinners you list can simply say to God that they're sorry, yet continue to commit the same sins. They get a wink and a nod. Yet, gay people are held to an entirely different standard. We must admit we are sinning and then stop it forever, even go so far as to get tangled up in some "ex-gay" scam and pretend like being bisexual or going back into the closet is some miraculous "change" in sexual orientation! Yet all the heterosexual sinners can simply say, "I'm sorry" and continue in their gluttony or second, third, fourth, fifth marriages, etc.

By this line of reasoning, gay people could simply say, "I'm sorry" each day and continue to live happily as gay people. (This is assuming that being gay is a sin which I do not believe it is.)

The problem with this reasoning by the anti-gay crowd--as they are so quick to point out to gay people and ignore for heterosexuals--is that being forgiven for our sins and receiving grace does not allow us to continue sinning.

The notion that we must not ever sin to get into heaven is false. All of us are sinners.

In fact, it is by our sinning that we are able to know God's divine mercy. This was part of the design.

God loves us despite our sins. He has in fact, created us all the way we are. For example, consider Peter, who had denied Christ three times. Selected to be the rock, or foundation, of the entire Church.

Or the Apostle Paul, who had earlier brutally persecuted and killed Christians. Or even King David who had slept with the wife of another, who then arranged to have her husband killed to avoid the scandal.

It is not by our own actions that we are saved; it is by God's. He wants us to be saved. He is not out to condemn us.
In fact, he loves humanity so much he sent down his only son to die for our sins. Not just the sins of this generation, but the sins of all generations.

Thus, your debt has already been cleared. To get into heaven, you simply need to accept Christ as your savior.

Yes, I recognize there are some people who live and die in this world without ever hearing of Christ. This does not necessarily mean that these people are destined for hell. This is simply part of a larger plan, involving the Church and her mission to teach.

And for the record, I do not believe everything in Scripture is meant to be taken literally. The Bible is not to be read like a history book, but as a book of salvation. You thus have to read it with a different lens.

Romans 10:9 say that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ, and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Clear enough?

But, it isn't a magic phrase. Just mouthing the words is nothing. If you mean it - meaning if you live it - then you will be saved.

Well, I have been told that Ted Bundy (who was saved before being executed) will be there. Maybe, it's a good thing that Heaven will be lonely- less victims for the serial killer. God thinks about everything.

Only God decides that.
"the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God."
"whoremongers (fornicators) and adulterers, (who are also idolaters) God will judge." - Hebrews
He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars -- their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.- Revelation

The judgement about which each individual will be granted eternal fellowship with God belongs to God ALONE, not to any person or group of people.

The Bible only tells us the criteria He will use.

Matt 7:21-23

21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

Who will be getting into Heaven?

Romans 8:30 "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

Matthew 25:34 "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: "

I try to be a better person each day.

I cannot remain free of sin, so I ask God for His forgiveness and I also ask Him to help me control my actions.

Ultimately it's my choices that will determine my fate.

I can only pray that God will show mercy upon me.
