I'm sorry, that just sounds insane. "Oh! I love you..." then three months later, you piss them off or do something, and BAM. You get KTFO.

I'm not sure what religious sanction you are referring to, but I know that wife beating has been common practice in many countries and cultures until recent history. It's not a good practice obviously, but if you live in a civilized nation you do have at least theoretical recourse under law regardless of the religious sanction. I am very much against spousal abuse.

No true religion would tolerate the abuse of a spouse. Man was not created to dominate his wife or abuse her in any way. Man is to love and support his wife. To be a husband means to nurture and take care of. This never has and never will include abusiveness. If the abuser is trying to excuse his behavior based upon supposed religious sanction, then you need to leave the man and his faith far behind. Christ taught that we are to love one another, in fact we are to become one with each other as Christ was one with His Father. Meaning that we have the same common goals and purposes in life. We pull together to reach our goals. We are true companions and partners in life.
