You accept Jesus's death on the cross as the payment for your sins, when you testify that Jesus is Lord - that He died to take your place. There's nothing you can do to earn your salvation - it's a free gift. You know you are a Christian when you've received that gift and you know in your heart there's no good in you at all, and that Jesus died for the unGodly - and he died for you, that you are a sinner, the penalty of your sins is eternal death, and that you can be born again if you just trust in Him. You can know it in your heart.
Any works is a result of a changed heart. Everyone struggles with sin all their life.
All I know is Jesus died for me.

...you can recite the order of the books of the Old Testament, but you can't explain their original sources, how they were written down, or what they mean in historical context
...you are intolerant of other faiths, and condemn even other Christians who are not within your domination to Hell
...you put up a Christmas tree and don't realize that decorating a tree inside during the winter is a Pagan tradition that was originally banned for Christians
... you know all about Jesus's birthday, but you have no idea that there are about a dozen other Gods that were born and died in similar fashions
... you claim that you have all the answers, but your religion has only been around for 2000 years, which is a lot younger than others
... you think that loving Jesus will get you into Heaven and don't realize that this belief is only about 200 years - for 90% of the history Christianity, it was believed that only God could select people for salvation, and human's had no control over it

You know you're a Christian when God in #1 in your life. You can't wait till you can go to church again. You love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. You even love your enemies. When you have LOVE! The Bible says: GOD IS LOVE!
