I am an American living in Mexico and have experienced the same ignorance about what it is like in Mexico. When I was a kid growing up in Iowa, I experienced the same ignorance from people out "east" who thought we still had savages scalping people in the midwest. There will always be lazy, uneducated, people who make judegments about people and places they know nothing about. In an age when all that knowledge is at our fingertips, seems inexusable to me!! Just like when people put a question here asking how far it is from Podunk to Idiotsville, or where the nearest ocean is to them, when they live one state from it. They are too lazy to look it up and obviously slept thru 5th grade geography. It IS often difficult to have patience with people like that.

I saw two grizzly cubs last week .. for real, that is the only time I have ever actually SEEN a grizzly -
Seen tons of other bears, moose, deer, elk, even saw a badger and a wolverine once, saw a gorgeous big silver wolf on the Rogers Pass, tons of mountain sheep and goat - muskrats, beavers, marmots and gophers (known in the US as Prairie Dogs) coyotes, foxes --- seals, whales and porpoise - seen the Salmon run - (no it wasnt a foot race lol)
When I was a child there were even wild horses in the Kootenays --
I get out in the forest and mountains a lot -- maybe y'all should come to BC and spend some time in the great outdoors. You might like, it - love it !
I prefer cities though, the bigger the better.

You mean like the guy on this site that was coming here in August and wanted to know how far he'd have to travel to go skiing in the mountains?? *grin*
Thankfully, not all Americans are like that. As I have friends all over the States I know it's true. But some really don't have a clue.
On the other hand, I know some Canadians that don't know squat about other countries either.
I think it has to do with the school systems and what they teach. If you live somewhere where the schools on teach about the USA then that's all you are going to learn. It's sad but true.

As someone from a northern state, I and most people I knew had some basic knowledge of Canada. A few people thought that the far-north Inuit (we grew up calling them Eskimoes) actually lived in igloos, but they thought that of Alaska, too.
I've seen bears in the US and Canada (mostly in Canada), beavers in both (ditto), but moose only in Canada.

No, I don't becaus i am a pure bred canadian, and Proud! Canada Rocks!!! Whoo! I could lutterally go on and on forever and a day, but I can understand that you probably hate these canadian stereotypes as much as I do. I have lived in places like goose bay, and even then, I haven't lived in a igloo, although I've seen bears and moose, thank you very much!

I'm Canadian and all I've ever seen was a rabbit and a squirrel. Oh, and a chipmunk! But I have never seen a moose or beaver here...

I now live in Canada (8 years) but was American and yes we thought Canada was all about the igloos. How sad.
I am almost ashamed to say I am an American when it comes to things like this.

Sorry about that but the only things most Americans[the USA ones] know about Canada come from beer commercials.
