My prediction is that the wall will be built and the illegal aliens will be forced out unless they can prove self sufficiency and a job that merits staying.

Yes on the crack down, it has already started. The border fence is not a solution only a waste of money. There have been countless tunnels found even where there is no fence and with a fence wire cutters or construction equipment could break through. The fence was a BS measure ment to give the appearance that action was being taken and then they fell short on it too.

First--history:
>For 12 years the GOP Congress did nothing about the immigration mess, while it steadily got worse--including ignoring it for 6 years after Bush was elected and 9/11 made it clear its also a national security issue.
>When Bush proposed a relatively conservative immigration reform billl, the right-wing scuttled it.
Prediction:
In 2009 we will get a comprehensive immigration reform ill. It will be far more liberal, however. It willl crack down on employers, but there will be no fence. There will be some form of amnesty and a guest worker provision.
The right-wing won't like tat. Tough--they had every opportunity to act and choose not to.

I doubt it. The fence might take some time, but the lack of enforcement on current regulation is hard to swallow. I have been taking employment forms for years and always check the citizenship info. I thought that was the law and don't understand why every busienss is not required to do so.

We will spend millions on a fence (or parts of a fence) which will be totally useless but we will certainly never do anything about employers. I mean, come on, they do save a lot of money by employing illegals.
Going after employers would be the easiest thing. Just ask any truck driver and he'll tell you which companies to hit first (besides restaurants and construction sites). We are not doing anything because big companies are our friends.

Yes to both. It is happening everyday. People rose in one voice to say no to shamnesty, enforce our laws and build the fence. Communities and states are now acting to enforce the laws the federal government has failed to enforce. As more and more do this, the federal government will be faced with a domestic crisis, persevere in ignoring the CITIZENS and risk civil disobedience or to do the right thing, and follow the CITIZENS demands over a group who has no right of political protest in our nation..illegal aliens. I believe they will do the right thing in the end, for failure to do so will result in losses in their next elections.

Well, the republicans were in charge the last 6 years of every branch of government from the senate, to the house, and the president and they did NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to stop or slow down illegals coming into this country. Now that they are here, it's stupid to think the day will come when someone will just round them up and take them back. All those who voted the repubs into office the past few years now have to lay in the bed they made when it comes to illegals

That bald headed outer space alien-looking dude Michael Chertoff head of Homeland IN-Security keeps warning that some day, when his eyebrows fall out, USA will have a secure border.

1 Yes they will build it.
2 No, they havn't in my
lifetime and it won't
happen in your lifetime.
Everthing will be just the same if not worse. They will just plant bougainvillea flower vines on both sides of the fence, the stickers on those beauties should keep everyone on THEIR side of the fence(wall).

Yea, good idea. Lets kick out the immigrants here now, and block all the others from coming over. We hire nothing but American workers at $12/hour. Let me know if you still feel the same when you're paying almost double for the same goods. You think businesses are going to absorb the extra cost of wages and benefits just because they are hiring blue blooded Americans? Face it, we need immigrants to do the jobs Americans don't want to do, and do it cheap. People with no understanding of economics make me laugh.
