It doesn't say that particular phrase. It's just a phrase used by Christians to describe the type of relationship they have with Jesus.

I have not memorized the Bible and do not recall those exact words written together. It is more of an explaination of what your relationship is with Jesus. Personal. You can have a relationship w/ him just like with your best friened. I don't know why this needs an explaination. It has been asked before. Besides, we don't just go around quoting "bible talk" all the time. We do have minds and words of our own.

Dear NH Baritone,

The Bible doesn't use the particular phrase- personal relationship. But there are other phrases the Bible uses (especially in the original language) that contains this idea.

When someone puts their faith in Jesus- they receive the Holy Spirit-- which lives within the believer. The OT and NT both also contain the idea of God tabernacling (or making his abode within the believer)- literally in the Greek it is to make His home within our heart. This is found in Exodus in the OT and Ephesians in the NT. So the idea of the Lord personally dwelling with us - is quite personal.

I suggest reading: My heart, Christ's Home by Robert Boyd Munger- it suggests this idea very well.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Good point. The "annointed one" or Christ Self references one's true Self as opposed to the learned egoic identity.

The "personal relationship" with Christ is within - simply remembering who you are. It is referenced by phrases like rebirth, born-again, resurrection of the Christ, second coming, etc. The emphasis on purification (baptism symbol) is the process of transcending ego beliefs.

That knowledge has been lost for centuries to ordinary Christians.

You're right, it doesn't say that. Instead, the Bible uses the phrase "in Christ" A LOT. We are to believe in Christ, we have eternal life in Christ, and the love of God is found in Christ.

You mean the "personal" relationship he has with all 2.1 billion of his followers? Yeah, that does seem like an oxymoron.

"The piety of "having a personal relationship with Christ" ... is alien to the New Testament... [but] evangelicals elevate it to the shibboleth of salvation! Unless you have a personal relationship with Jesus, buster, one day you will be boiling in Hell. Sheesh! Talk about the fury of a personal savior scorned!"

John 15:4 - Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
Matthew 7:23 - Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Psalm 37:4 - Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart
Matthew 12:50 - For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
1 John 2:4-5 - He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
John 14:23 - Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

Well, you see, that's Christianity's new ad to attract a bigger congregation.

It worked better than the inquisition, which was more in line with Biblical teaching (except for the a*al probe made of spikes).
