There'a big debate over evolution and Creation, and I've seen some posting that said God could have used evolution in His Creation. Let me point out some of the discrepancies between the two, and show why God couldn't have used evolution. First, evolution took billions of years, with pain, suffering, disease and death. The Bible says that pain, suffering, disease and death were a result of sin. The two are not compatable. Cosmic evolution teaches that the universe came into existance first, and then the Earth. The Bible says that God Created the Earth on day one, and the universe 4 days later. Evolution says that reptiles came first, and then birds evolved. But the Bible says that God Created the birds on day 5, and the reptiles on day 6. So the order of Creation is wrong. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God used evolution, but Created by the power of His Word. Do any Christians agree with me, that God could not have used evolution in His Creation?

LXV............Yes, it really does matter if you believe in 6,000 years or billions of years. If we have billions of years, than we have billions of years of pain, suffering and death. At the end of Day 6, God said that everything was very good. If God's very good included pain, disease, suffering and death, what does He mean when He says other things are good. Also, as Christians, we're looking forward to God's 2nd coming, when He'll restore paradise to the way it was before sin. Would you want to be in a Paradise, where you're fearful that an animal may tear you apart? It is very important what you believe.

Story Junkie..........If God inspired these writers as you say you believe, and God is all powerful, don't you think He could have made sure they wrote exactly what He wanted. Why would God inspire them, and than alow them to make mistakes?

jeeen.............The different races today is not a result of evolution. Mendellian genetics is the answer. Take Adam and Eve. Being from the Middle East, they would be a brown skinned couple, containg all the genes for all skin colors. Let's look at three for simplicity; black, brown and white. As they had children, 25% of them would have been 100% black; 25% of them would have been 100% white; and 50% of them would have been brown, containing genes for all colors. When people were scattered from Babel, they went to all parts of the world. Only black skinned people would have done well in Africa, resulting in an all black population. Same thing in Northern Europe. Only white skinned people would have done well. The races are not a result of evolution, but of survival of the fittest. One thing you should remember, there's only one race.........we're all humans.

Magix151.............There are things God can't do, one of them is lie. God told us how He Created, and He told us the order. If you're a Christian, and I think you may be, if the Bible isn't right when it tells us about Creation, how do we know It's right when it talks about the Resurrection?

Theo..............I agree with you, the two can not be combined. There is one of two possiblities, either the world created itself, or someone created it. There are no other possiblities. Science seems to be on the side of a Creator. The 1st Law of Thermal Dynamics says that matter can not be created or destroyed. Scientists don't know where the energy or the matter for the Big Bang came from. But the Bible says that God created by the Power of His Word. The 2nd Law of Thermal Dynamics says that everything is breaking down, which is a result of the Curse of Adam's sin. If you look at science, it backs Creation much more than evolution.

There are three basic "camps" on the origin of the earth and man.

First there is the Creationist that believes that the creation period took 6 24 hour days. These are also known as "Young Earth" creationists. The Bible has the most support for this idea.

Second, there is the "Gap Theory". This is a combination of creationism and evolution. This is the idea that the 6 days in the creation week were actually long period of time. This theory was invented to allow Christians to feel OK with creation and to also "side" with the evolution scientists. This theory is very popular but has no support in the Bible for a long period of time anywhere in the creation week.

Third, there is the Theory of Evolution. This is where there is no Divine being involved in the creation or existence of the earth or man. This is the theory were life started from a Big Bang and gradually evolved from single cell "animals" into the various species that exist today. This is the theory that is generally accepted by atheists or those who have no knowledge of the Bible.

There is considerable Biblical support for the first theory, the "young earth" concept. There is also scientific evidence of a young earth, much of which is ignored and "swept under the carpet" by those who support evolution. If you truly believe in an all-powerful God, then this is the theory that is the most logical and Biblically supported.

Two things:

1) The timeframe is a little hard to pinpoint. Before the earth had form and was void, what would one use to gauge the length of a day? Was it 24 hours? 24 days? 24 billion years?

2) The Bible says the "earth was without form, and void." Every Bible words it basically the same way. It doesn't say there was "no earth." It's form was different. Therefore, what does it mean, exactly, when it says "in the Begining?" The begining of what? The begining of time. The begining of the Universe? The begining of the story?

We don't really know, do we?

Evolution theory does not take into consideration the existence of the soul, nor does it answer the question of how the universe "came into being" in the first place. They first must admit that there was an original cause of the force, and a source of the matter.

Creation theory does not take into consideration the relativity of time. One day of the creator is not equal to one day of man, considering that God is not subject to time, and therefore His day cannot be meausured by our standard. According to the ancient Vedas, one day of Brahma is equal to 8,600,000,000 of our years. If both evolutionists and creationist would slightly shift their thinking to include these omissions, there would be no contradictions.

Perhaps the material bodies did evolve over millions of years, but it is the individual soul that transmigrates through the species, one life at a time, until reaching the human stage. After all, the soul is comprised of energy, which can neither be created nor destroyed, but the material body is comprised of elements that break down into "dust of the earth". These material bodies are existing according to order, not chance. The DNA is strictly defined for each species, which is why cats always have cats. The vedas describe the soul as taking a material body according to the desires of the individual. If you develop the state of mind of a cat, you can have the body of a cat, and if you develop the state of mind of a woman, you can have that body. So, the body can evolve according to material considerations, but the soul can inhabit the body according to his consciousness.

Because I'm an Old Earth Creationist, I really do think that the universe is billions of years old.

And really, honestly, does it matter to salvation if I think the universe is billions of years old and God used natural processes to make a difference between a okapi and a giraffe?

EDIT:
Again I beg to differ. Animal death is different than human death. Humans, unlike animals were created in God's image (for what its worth I don't think that humans evolved from previous animals. I think that whole 'created from the earth' is significant.) Sin brought suffering upon humans, I don't think animals see suffering quite the same we do (with the exception of physical suffering). A great deal of our misery is self-inflicted psychologically and spiritually.
Still, since we disagree on such a major issue as the matter of one's view of creation being part of the requirements of salvation (I see it as God did it, does it matter how? And you clearly have another view), I doubt we will ever see eye to eye on this. (But I've never been afraid of wild animals. Domesticated, feral, yes. But not truly wild animals)

But I would like to give you something to mull over:
If someone's major stumbling block to salvation was the Genesis 1 issue, would you still insist that you HAD to believe the earth was 6000 years old to receive salvation? I sure wouldn't.

Perhaps you don't understand something about the Bible. The people who wrote the Bible were not scientists. They didn't know what we now know. So I definitely disagree with you. We don't still try to explain why the earth is truly the center of the universe even though that used to be a common belief. Intelligence is relative to the times. Just because Moses was wrong about the origins of earth doesn't mean he was stupid he just didn't know any better..

Be careful the Christians are touchy and grumpy today. I get your point, but is not giving birth painful and is not suffering involved? I watched my ex wife give birth to 2 kids and there is much pain and suffering involved. so you point is no point to me. That is just me though.

I do however think Christians who say God used evolution are not taking the bible literally.

Belief in the bible and belief in the theory of evolution, not the fact of evolution are not compatible. Just like Christianity and Wicca are not compatible, but many claim to be Christian Wiccans.

Just because he Bible says one thing, how do we know it is right? Maybe God did use evolution to make everything here. The guys that wrote the bible just got the order wrong. Unless you are one of those people that takes the bible literally, I see no reason to feel that evolution and creation could not have been used together. Besides, you're talking about God---He can do whatever he wants, right?

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. maybe evolution is all wrong, and maybe creation. i don't see why elements of the two can't tie in together.

for example, humans started as Adam and Eve, with the same skin colour. As the human race grew, and people moved over the earth, to different climatic areas, their skin colours started to adapt to fit that environment, through genetic mutations, and consequently evolution..
that could explain how we are all the colourus we are today..

then again, i could be wrong. but it's one theory that offers a different approach....i'm in no way trying to prove anything here though....just throwing it up for discussion.

I have to correct you, first of all. God created the universe before he created the earth. Please read the Bible before you try to use facts from it.

But yes, I agree. God didn't use evolution in his wonderful Creation. He made us the way he wanted us to be. He said "It is good" not "That's nice..now let me change it"
