-1 Corinthians 6:9

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor EFFEMINATE, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,"

-Notice the King James version states specifically that the effeminate will not inherit the kingdom of God. ...this is separated from "abusers of themselves with mankind" which implies homosexuals.

-so why are there so many girly men that go to church? Have you seen the choir directors, the men in the orchestra, and many of the pastors...these guys are not real butch.

-I bet most men at most of the churches couldn't even change the oil in their car.

So, my point is this....I may be gay, but can run a marathon, I play baseball and rugby, and I can change my oil....so, definitely not effeminate.

Why aren't you fundies railing against the girly men? Obviously, it was important enough to spell it out in this passage.

And I do realize that the Customs of the day when this was written, would mandate that a man be masculine to be able to provide for his family, protect his family etc...so, this word refers more to the customs and traditions of the day than it interprets literally for our world...but, that being the case...shouldn't we look at the context of all words in this verse?

I am a chorister at my church, and work with the church music. There is nothing whatsoever effeminate about me. I'm built much like your stereotypical American football player, rather muscular, with a bass voice. I lift weights and can change the oil in my car. I can also sing operatic arias. Where are you getting the absurd notion that choristers are effeminate? And even if they were, so what? Homophobia isn't my thing. I refuse to discriminate against people due to their sexual orientation. And besides, I've met several straight men, including several grandfathers, who were effeminate. Effeminacy is not necessarily a reliable indicator that a person is gay.
