basically, there is little or no need, unless you're driving directly into a metro area and will need coins for parking meters immediately.

I go to Canada often, and other than a jar of change (see above), I just pull cash out from ATMs, or just use plastic.

i am from canada and the only advantage would be that some stores and restaurants do not take american money. other than that i would tell you to buy a little bit of canadian dollars because u can just transfer it back when u go back.

The currency exchange these days is almost even, Don't even bother exchanging, every place up there accepts US currency and displays their prices in US funds as well as Canadian

It would be polite to use cdn$. Politeness is valued in Canada. Use an ATM and you'll get good rates.

agree. it's almost even now I think it's 0.96 CND to a dollar. if you exchange them you're looking at around 2-3% less so it's better to just carry your USD coz it's accepted here.
