Not usually. If you happen to be downshifting, then it depends on the tracksmission. The Jerico transmissions don't need the clutch to downshift/upshift, just to take off.
If you're just going around the track, under race conditions, and not stopping, then no, you definately do not use the clutch. You actually use the engines comression to help slow the car.

NASCAR "corners" are really "banked turns."
The clutch isn't used, but the driver still downshifts and brakes at the same time. Coming out of the turn, the driver accellerates before completely taking the foot off the brake (which is done once the car is out of the turn).

The type of transmission used these days does not require a clutch. Slam on the brakes, downshift without clutch at the same time.

I am guessing you are talking about oval track racing and the answer then would be absolutely not. The only time would be if there was a wreck and/or something drastically happening in front to brake and use the clutch and that would only be to put it in the proper gear to accelerate away from whatever.

NO clutching in the corners.
you can actually use the transmission to help slow the car down, just by letting off the gas. If you clutch the car, it won't work b/c you'll be in neutral.

Depends on the transmission. Usually not though because they are built so you just have to shift up and down when the RPM's are high enough.
