No, there musn't. There is no consistently better way to win the lottery. Pretend you have a six-sided die, and your target number is a six. How many times do you have to roll it before it comes up a six? Once? Twice? Six times? Seven times? Eight?

It's possible (but not plausible) that the die would *never* land on six, despite hundreds of rolls.

Now imagine you have a 2-billion-sided die. Let's say your number is 1,156,230,053. How many times would you need to roll this die in order for it to land on your number?

The lottery is truly random, and nigh-unwinnable. Don't throw your money away.

You have to wait until the mathematical expectation is in your favor. It can happen in Powerball. Really.

The odds of winning Powerball are something like 1 in 120 million. So, if the prize goes over 120 million, you can play every possible combination of tickets and you're guaranteed to win.

There are a few caveats:

1) You need to make an allowance for taxes. So, it's probably best to wait until the prize is over 300 million.

2) You need to figure out how to fill out 120 million tickets in a week, without repeating any combinations, and without missing any. If you could fill out one ticket per second, it would take about 4 years.

3) You need to figure out how to buy 120 million tickets in less than a week. (See item #2).

4) You need to come up with 120 million in advance to pay for all those tickets. I don't think anybody would loan you that kind of money.

5)You need to hope that some grandmother in Ohio who plays her grandchildren's birthdays doesn't get lucky that week. You wouldn't want to have to share the money with anybody. One thing in your favor is that you'll also win a lot of 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

Aside from that, the only secret is to play a couple bucks a week and hope you get lucky.
