I have driven many a repo away from the owner's home, work, or even the shopping center parking lot while they were in the store.

Some finance companies keep spare keys. Some just require that the dealer provide the key numbers. In some cases you can have a key cut based on the VIN.

It is actually easier to drive the car away, that it is to tow it. I can go and take a car with the keys in less than a minute. If It has a steering wheel lock, like "the club" add another 45 seconds! If I come with a tow truck, I will be making noise. If I can drive the car away, there is les chance for a confrontation with an angry deadbeat!

I worked as a repo man for many years, key's are the best if the leader has a set of keys or the dealership can get the key codes and make you a set driving off is the best your tow truck can wake people up to much noise. I would park my truck a few blocks away and walk back to the car and try the keys if the car ran drive it back to my truck and hook it up, if it didn't run just go back to my truck and use it. Most time we worked two man teams then one of us would drive a car back to the lot and one would tow one saved on gas in the truck and we would normally get 5 to 15 car's a night.

Whatever they can do to take possession of it, better believe they'l do it. It's not standard practice for the repo person to "drive away" in the reposessed vehicle, unless it's one of those "low-budget" repo outfits. True licensed & legit repo guys use a tow truck. I would think that's standard practice.

The repo guy usually can't move any other vehicles to get to your but He CAN drive away with it...I've done it for the dealer I used to work for. The lien holder has a legal right to get his car back.

I think thats how they do it!! The finance company probably has a court order or judgement saying the car is the property of the finance company. Now, the have to get the car back from the debtor, who no longer has title or legal ownership, but of course wants to still keep his car right?? So he hides it etc..the repo men have to follow this guy around, wating for the right time to be able to legally steal the car back..

yes they can, because if u have not finished paying it, the odds are that whoever u have not finished paying has the title so therefore they own the car, and yes they can drive off with it or even tow it if they would like. And its pretty rare that they Repo a car unless u miss that many payments and are being impossible to reach

It is usualy easier to tow it. The repo agent does not know if the car will run when he finds it.

Yes, if they get the keys.

The image from the movies is that they sweep in when the owner isn't looking, hook it up to a tow truck, and drive away with the car in tow. In the movies, they try to avoid confrontations with the owner, so they don't ask him for the keys.

Normally a company may hire a tow company to tow it to a secured lot and will hold it until you either make arrangements to either pay to catch it up or they will sell it at auction. If there is anything (property wise) in it then they have the right to sell it or what ever they want to if you do not make arrangements with the tow truck to get your stuff.

Yes, thats why it is called repossesion, they are taking it back, by law they don't even have to let you get your things out of it.
