The best over the counter pain reliever is Advil liqui capsules. They work very quickly on pain. They need to be taken four times daily.

In addition to have your husband Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.

Afterwards Massage an analgesic cream into the knees.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body.

if your husband doesn't feel better after three weeks have him see a medical doctor.

Aleve and Advil are the best anti-inflammatories over the counter. Either would be great, but if he starts to have stomach pains or upset stomach he needs to see his doctor because sometimes they tend to tear up peoples stomachs and cause ulcers. Also you can get him a knee brace from your local sporting good store or pharmacy (A slip on neoprene brace will usually work).

celebrex works well for my dad. but it requires prescription from doctor. ibuprophen is also good medicine. aleve has something in it for anti swelling. might be good to alternate aleve and ibu ? you could ask the pharmacist for their recommendation. they have about as much education as a doctor.
