a lot of couples are registered at manny many places for their wedding. ask if they're in need of something.
i always make things.. its more personal. but if i knew they were in need of something, i'd buy that.
of course you can always go w/ the traditional stuff too: wine glasses, dish sets, wine, etc etc.

Check out their registry. If you're not sure where they're registered, check the usual suspects: Bed Bath & Beyond, Macys, Target, Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel. If they arent registered anywhere, just give them something you think they would like. A kitchen gadget that you can't live without generally makes a good gift. Or you can always just give them cash, a gift certificate or a voucher for a day at the spa. You can also ask the couple about sponsoring a day or night of their honeymoon.

A really nice coffee/ tea cup service with matching sugar bowl and cream pot and maybe a coffee maker or plunger.
A platter or serving dish of some sort. A wine rack filled with a dozen bottles of their favourite wine. A silver or gold plated picture frame that they can use fot the wedding picture.
Maybe they are registered on a gift registry at a department store. Check this with other family members.

Pick something off the registry or give them cash. If there is no registry it's usually because they want the cash.
The items on the registry are there because the couple wanted/needed them so are always a perfect present. If you are worried about it not bieng unique or not personal don't. Make it unique by wrapping it in a unique way.
Coming up with your own presents usually just ends up in an extra errand for the bride to return them.

If you know where she is going on her honeymoon, you could get her a basket full of stuff she will need to take with her. For example, if she is going somewhere tropical you could make a cute gift basket filled with disposable cameras, batteries (always come in handy), sunscreen, cute flip flops, bathing suit, bottle of wine, etc.. Anything you can think that she will need on her trip. With all the attention on the wedding, sometimes the honeymoon is on the backburner & she may not be prepared!

Digital camera and a nice family photo album?
A gift card for an expensive romantic dinner-w/enough $ for 2?
A gift certificate for a doubles spa treatment?
A picnic basket filled w/sweets, goodies, nice serviceware for 2 and nice bottle of wine, complete w/engraved bottle opener?
There's a lot of options...but your decision should be mainly based on what you know they'd like as a couple...

Or lay by (layaway, relies upon the place you're from) %. what you go with like a eating suite, mattress room suite,BBQ what ever you go with and ask your visitors to place some money on the lay by for you and if the money exceeds then you definately are in a position to place it in direction of greater furniture and so on desire this enables.
