I need to know when and why St. Anthony was canonized (became a saint.) I also need to know his virtues. Thanks a lot!

I'm talking about Saint Anthony of Egypt aka Saint Anthony the Great, Saint Anthony Abbot, Saint Anthony of Egypt, Saint Anthony of the Desert, Saint Anthony the Anchorite, and The Father of All Monks.

Ascension Day, 1897

St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria was the founder of the Clerks Regular of St. Paul, later called the Barnabites from the name of their principal church in Rome. He also founded a congregation of nuns which now no longer exists. He was a great admirer of St. Paul and was himself imbued with the teaching of the great Apostle, whom he gave to his followers as a model and a patron. He was a zealous and untiring preacher and completely wore himself out at this work; he died at the age of thirty-six on July 5, 1539

There are many saints named Anthony. I assume you're referring to St. Anthony of Padua, who was canonized May 30, 1232 by Pope Gregory IX at Spoleto, Italy.

He is invoked against hunger and shipwrecks, and is the patron of amputees, Native Americans, animals, boatmen, the elderly, expectant mothers, horses, mariners, the poor and oppressed, travelers and people in the travel industry and more. But he is most famous as the patron saint of lost items. If an item is lost, some people feel that St. Anthony can help find it.
