Sometimes an emergency can arise that requires an immediate response, so waiting for them to get back to you thru email can become a serious problem.

If it's an emergency, you really should call someone you know in real life ... or 911!

There's a huge potential for abuse if Yahoo allowed access to phone numbers.

Because this is an intrusion into privacy.

Remote comments etc are fine but occasionally you get a weird person on the site and to give them your phone number would be crass.
