I wonder if she thought it would make the food taste better. Its not the cookware that makes the cook! I use a select few items of cookware. I would consider using the $3,000 for something much more needed.

When I was a chef inCanada we had a full range of copper clad cookeware, the hotel version, when they would get scared we would have them replated, for 1/2 the 1400 pieces to be done it would have costed $25,000. So needless to say the majority was shelved and the larger pots kept and we went to the lesser priced stainless steel and cast aluminum brands.

Those types like Salad King, Le Cruest and Paderno, are mainly cast iron with enamel coating or stainless steel with a copper insert in the base, most are hand made, not forged but stamped and the handles rivetted on. Like Amway this sets are for profit, and the amount of good they will do is minimal, and usually there is 25-30 pieces including untensils, my sister was flooging that Pampered Chef crap for awhile.

Most of that garbage could be bought at the Dollar Barn.

were you aware this was more than a lunch invite? if this friend was not up front about his/her intention of the lunch, then it's probably time to get new friends.

b.t.w. a really good set of cookware is going to cost above $1000, but $3000 is more of a rip off, unless it's 100% copper or silver.

I believe it. I spent close to $400 on a single pot made by Viking last week.
