for me evolution is an expression of a pattern within a created environment and not an expression of creation in itself. even if the theory of evolution ever becomes a law, nothing could possibly evolve if nothing was created. So why do some people think evolution opposes creation?

it's a theory because... they have showned that within a species they do evolve but no one yet has proved one species could make a jump to another.

yes.
You don't understand do you? Theories don't become law. A Scientific theory is a collection of FACTS that all fit what is known of a situation. If a single FACT doesn't fit the theory then the theory is disproven and must be either modified to fit the fact or discarded. Evolution has stood as a Scientific Theory for 148 years and rates as one of the most examined, dissected and scrutinised theories of all time.
Like so many others you are mixing the creation of matter and the universe with the evolution of species by natural selection. Darwin didn't postulate the Big Bang or any other explanation of how matter was created, nor did he speculate on how life first came to exist. You have confused and muddled the Big Bang, Abiogenesis and Evolution into one. Each stands independently as a Scientific Theory (see above).
And a species "jumping" to another is not how evolution works. What has been PROVED is one species evolving into two - in European Grasshoppers, Northern Hemisphere gulls, Cichlid Fish, Californian Salamanders, North American Ground Frogs and several other species. Educate yourself before you write about things you don't understand. Scientific Theory means BASED ON FACT

I suggest you read a lot more on the subject, because not only is evolution and natural selection an elegant, powerful explanatory force, but by its own nature doesn't require any creation or divine will. Indeed with a good understanding of biology you'd realize that life looks exactly the way it would have to if no god exists!
And don't read from some BS apologetics site because none of them know what evolution is or how it works. I can tell you aren't very educated on the subject because you say "theory of evolution."
Evolution is not a theory. Evolution is a fact. "Natural Selection" is the theory to explain the fact, in the same way that the Theory of Gravity is the theory to explain the fact of Gravity. You're confusing the two.
Now, evolution/natural selection doesn't talk about how life started. But you may find the abiogenesis hypothesis to be interesting.

A theory, by definition, can never become a law. Laws are used to support theories. Theories are a high as it gets. Also, evolution doesn't cover how life started, just how it changed. So the "creation" of life can still be believed to have been done by a creator, and still accept evolution. But the belief of Creationism can't, since it says life has not evolved since it's creation.

The only people who think evolution opposes creation are the creationists, not the other way around. And yes, evolution can evolve without anyone or anything having created it.

Nope, Because The evidence for evolution is and has been interpreted from a Philosophical and ideological Bias, The answers given by adherents to Evolution here in R&S is proof of the bias and agenda, Atheism has to have an alternate explanation—other than a Creator—for how the universe and life came into existence.
Darwin once identified himself as a Christian but as a result of some tragedies that took place in his life, he later renounced the Christian faith and the existence of God. Evolution was invented by an atheist.
What is sad is that Christians are falling into this Trap and trying to fit evolution into the Bible (Theistic Evolution) thinking they can make it fit.
Lee Stroble in his video listed below “ The Case for the Creator” stated (5 min. 28 sec into the video) The Case for a Creator
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajqH4y8G0MI
That “There is no way you can Harmonize Neo Darwinism with Christianity, I could never understand Christians who would say “ Well I believe in God yet I believe in Evolution as well” You see Darwin’s idea about the development of life led to his theory that modern science now generally defines as an undirected process completely devoid of any purpose or plan,”. Now how could God direct an undirected process? How could God have purpose in a plan behind a system that has no plan and no purpose? It just does not make sense.
It didn’t make sense to me in 1966 and it doesn’t make sense to me now.
The Apostle Paul wrote to His Son Timothy stating that “ in 2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, [because] they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn [their] ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
Those Christians who believe in evolution have no idea how that effects their theology.

Yes there has to be creation. But if you try to convince my ancestors came from a slime pit, crawled out flew away and somehow became a man, I have a problem with that, when the Bible says man was created.
