6 mos for both
3 sets of shots starting at 10 wks
cost depends on the vet

shots 20 each not counting the possibility of flea treatment, and de-worming.

at 6 mos. she will need a rabies shot $18.
declawing and spaying could be up to $200.

you will have to buy litter and food at most $30 a month

flea medicine monthly about $45 for 3 months supply

toys, litter box, dishes, collar, brush

Declawing is cruel - don't do it. Would you like the last joint of your fingers removed? Give her a good scratching post and show her how to use it. We have two young kittens and haven't had a problem with scratching at all.

The spaying for a girl is usually done after the kitten has reached 2 pounds.

The neutering can be done very early, but my vet wanted to wait until he was over 2 pounds, too.

They need a series of vaccinations against distemper. The first one can be given at 8 weeks, the next should be given between 11 and 12 weeks. And they need a rabies shot at 12 weeks old - NO SOONER.

As far as cost, be prepared for some initial vet expenses. A lot of kittens have weak (developing) immune systems, making even a common cold or virus a big deal. Many come with upper respiratory infections which require antibiotics, and most come with some kind of intestinal parasite (worms). Easily cured, and the medicine is pretty inexpensive.

For our two kittens (we live in CT), our total costs to get them all set up was around $1000. That included all their vet visits and lab work to check for FIV/FLK, worms, and their pre-neuter blood screening. So for one kitten, I would anticipate spending around $500 for the first round of tests and vet visits.

A cat can be spayed as early as 6 months. You may want to check into the declawing, there are many debates about weather is is a humane and necessary procedure. Your vet will want to do both a feline leukemia test and a feline aids test along with the necessary shots. You are looking at a couple hundred dollars over all. My advice would be to prioritize the most important procedures for the first visit. Follow up later on with the other stuff as your income will allow.

Upon getting a kitten it is advisable to get it spayed/neutered and declawed right away, along with a thorough examination to make certain that the animal is healthy. I used to work at an animal shelter and we did spay/neutering on 8-10 week old kittens. It is a very simple procedure and your pet should be able to go home the next day if all goes well. As far as cost goes for the procedures and the ongoing costs that depends entirely upon your veterinarian. Injections need to be kept up for the health of your pet and the welfare of you and your family. Please keep your cat indoors at all times unless it is in enclosure if it is to be declawed. Cats outdoors is a bad idea and not good for them as they can pick up many bad diseases in addition to fleas and ticks. Good luck with your new friend and take good care of her/him. Enjoy.

Since cats can go into heat at 4, yes 4, months of age, get her spayed as soon as your vet says it's okay. Especially if you're letting her outside. Declaw is always an optional procedure. If she doesn't get destructive there's really no need to do it. My 13 year old cat is still fully armed and loaded.

1. Neytering/spaying is done at 6-7 months old.
2. YOU MUST NOT DECLAW THE KITTEN. Not only is this cruel, because the finger of the kitty is amputated and it hurts for the rest of her life to walk, but also it is useless and harmful. You caan easily teach it not to use its claws. Even my cat who is very ferocious never uses claws. When you see the kitten try to scratch furniture or carpets, you just grab it from the neck and say No and put it on its scratching post. They soon learn where they are allowed to do what.
Declawing is very likely to make your kitty start biting, which is worse, trust me, and to stop using the litterbox, because it is awful to dig without fingers. i have seen many questions over here of people whose cats poop all over the house after being declawed, and you can't fix that.
Another good and huimane alternative to declawing is claw caps. Check http://www.softpaws.com
If you plan to amputate the kitten, better not to take it!
3. If he has had no shots yet, he will be given a shot now, one after a month, and afterwards one every year. You also need to give him de-worming medicine now, after 2 weeks, and then every month until he is 6 months old. Then every 6 months. Be careful to buy the medicine and dosage which is appropriate to his age every time.
He will also need flea treatment, spray or spot on ampoules every month. again be careful, the spot on must be appropriate to his age. Better use the frontline spray the first time.
If his ears have mites (black dirty stuff in them) he may also need treatment for that, the vet will tell you.

As soon as you get the kitten bring it to the vet for a checkup and to make sure she doesn't have worms. The vet will make sure your kitten is on schedule to get all the vaccinations it needs. It can be spayed at 6 months and declawed at the same time. It will probably about $300 in vet bills in the first year to get shots and the surgery.
