The teachings are similar because both were enlightened teachers. With enlightenment, one feels the truth and the oneness of all things. Without enlightenment all one has is ideas which are only good for conceptualizing, not feeling.

Good question. Every major religion has a mystical, or apophatic, tradition which tends to look past the various dogmas and doctrines and gets to the core experience of God. Try reading Thomas Merton and then read someone like Thich Nhat Hanh and you can see many similarities between core Buddhism and core Christianity. I am reading a book right now called Zen Catholicism by Dom Aelred Graham. It has an impramatur and everything, yet is all about how Buddhism and Catholicism are vey similar at their cores.
All truth is God's truth, no matter what package it comes in.

If in basic terms human beings would desire to look at issues from an objective attitude while answering questions like this, instead of letting their very own evaluations impact them. There would be greater tolerance in the international if that have been the case. sure, you're staggering. it form of feels that maximum religions have some effortless ethical tenets in undemanding with one yet another. in case you're taking basically the classes, and not the enterprise of religion that alter into formed by guy, then those similarities are staggering.

Because their source is these people's actual life experience. That depended on their time, country, and where they were brought up. As well as some other things. Jesus was a carpenter by profession thats why the Son of Man approach was best for him. Buddha came from a royal family which he renounced out of his naturally manifested feelings of compassion, so there s that. Jews had to survive in extremely arrid areas on heck knows what kind of nutrition - so there s that religion, at least basically.

I thank my friend Smarti for sharing this video from the BBC. Many have observed how Jesus' teachings bear much more resemblance to Buddhist teachings than they do to anything in the Old Testament. And there has been speculation about whether Jesus studied with Buddhists during the missing years of his life. BBC offers some interesting theories and evidence in this short video clip.

Buddhism predates Christianity (by about 500 years), so there would be nothing in the teachings about Jesus.
There is no generally accepted Buddhist view of Jesus, but some Buddhists think of Jesus as a bodhisattva, one who, motivated by compassion, seeks enlightenment for everyone, including himself.

Because we as a collective society have come up with these same rules to coexist as a society countless times in various forms. Peace and love have been the underlying themes of many religions over the centuries. God doesn't create these rules IMO we do as a part of a societal control mechanism so we can live and work together as a species.

They are similar. Wisdom is wisdom. If it's true here it will be true there. Buddha was a smart guy. Christians would be a lot better off if they paid attention to some of the teachings of Buddhism and Yoga!

If we're going to judge religions on a single arbitrarily chosen point, I think we could argue that any two religions are similar. The fact that both teachers have the same idea of what love is makes them similar? I bet they would also both agree that ground is hard and the ocean is wet and being mean is unpleasant.
Wait a minute...I agree with all those points. I must be a Christian Buddhist Wiccan.

According to the Gospel Of Mary Magdalen Jesus spoke of salvation through enlightenment. The second coming is about knowledge. Jesus' teachings are identical to the Buddha's.

hehe, I actually had a similar discussion earlier this week. Jesus's teachings made him seem more like an agressive Buddhist. His teachings of being a better person, of love, compassion, tolerance, forgiveness, acceptance...sounds more like a Buddhist than most Christians I know.
