As far as I know and according to archeologists many clues have been founded over their existence, is hard to be absolutely sure about the reality of the Australopithecus, but always is healthy to leave a margin to the doubt. Perhaps it is necessary to investigate deeper and find conclusive data to discard any doubt.

They are. They are real extinct ape species and they are plenty of them, but none of them are human ancestors.

Not a creationist, but my guess would be the overwhelming fossil record evidence is why you believe.
