The winner.

Nobody. There isn't a god to take sides or help anybody out, but the people who win point to their victory as evidence of god helping them out.

If there were a god, the Nazis would have been victorious as they were the most christian nation in the world (55% protestant, 40% catholic)... they had an official church of the reich, their belts said "god is with us", their officer's hats had crosses on them, half the nazi symbols had a crucifix in the background, Hitler was friends with the pope and both the Vatican and the protestants officially supported both the Nazi regime and their discrimination of the jews. Yet (fortunately) they lost to the atheists Russians and secular (at that time) Americans.

So it's really a good thing there is no god to decide the winners.

Both!
If they are truly praying to the same God, then I believe God would not allow them to war with each other. It would be stopped.
Remember, to many religious groups, they are not the same God even though you, I, and God may not see it that way. God knows who has it right, and I'm afraid we will only know that answer when we die or, if we are lucky, He comes again.
Religion is man-made, that may be the reason for the wars - Man's interpretation of what God is.
Christianity is not. It is the simple belief that Jesus died for your sins and he is the son of God.

Hi!

Neither. God will be supporting those others who seek to bring conflict to a peacful conclusion, often from both "sides".

You may or may not know the story I am about to relate:

At a time of crusade, St. Francis went to the pope and implored him to change the culture within Christendom of seeking wealth and worldly power. "Come back to Gospel principles" was the core of his message. He then walked right through the Muslim army wearing the obvious garb of a Christian religious and spoke words of brotherhood to the Sultan. Did it achieve anything?

A few years ago I was codifying the statues of saints in a Franciscan monastery. We discovered that St. Clare was patron saint of television. Why would a C12th saint be associated with something as modern as TV? We probed further and discovered a legend that as Clare was dying, an image of her sisters going about their daily activities was projected on her cell wall. A miracle?

What if it was due to a camera obscura? But surely camera obscura came much later? Luckilly, we had a Muslim student with us who was able to point out that the camera obscura was invented by a Muslim in the C5th - though the beginnings of the technology that led to modern day photography are even older.

This is better than a miracle. Imagine a friend Francis had made in the Muslim world coming to offer the technology that would enable his dying sister Clare to remain in touch with her community.

Do not look at the conflict alone - but observe who is working on the side of the angels to bring peace. Not many can readilly recall the name of the Pope and Sultan that Francis approached - but millions now know the name of the insignificant mendicant friar who approached them.

How many recall the names of the generals who led the Bristish army in India? Who can recite the names of the warmongers during the stuggle for independance? Yet we all know who Gandhi was. Can you name the torturers of the apatheid regime? But I bet you know who Steve Beko was and who Nelson Mandella is. Other than Pilot and Herod, who were the leaders of Jesus time? We all know the man they put to death, and probably wouldn't know about Pilot and Herod had they not been in his story. Who else's name do you recall from the story of Martin Luther King?

1 Samuel 16, 7.

Good wishes.

There are some scenes in the Longest Day that crack me up. One is when an American Colonel is complaining about the weather asks, "Sometimes I wonder what side God is on.", in a later scene a German General asks the same question.

Neither, god is supposed to have said "thou shalt not kill", there is no holy wars, only people too shprt sighted and insane t understand that every individual differs in faith and belief and that is a basic human right. Just because I believe something different than others, should I be murdered?

The same thing happens at Football Games. It's an easy answer. The prayers fall on deaf ears because there is no man living in a cloud.

Great question.

As you know, there can only be one God. Everyone wants God on their side...but a better question for them to ask themselves...

"Are we on God's side?"

What if you are referring to Sunni's and Shi'ites (Islam)? Then it would be a wash, they both pray to the moon god, Allah.

Hope that helps!

If they are at war with one another, someone isn't following their religion like they should. The true religion will be noted by the love it has for others... and you can't love someone and be at war with them at the same time.
