I don't see the point. It's not protecting anything, nor does it suck up any sweat, or have any use at all. It's warm enough and all it does is make you hotter.

I understand leg hair though, to keep you warm. And head hair, to keep your head warm.

But why armpits??

As someone else pointed out, armpit hair keeps odor in. Why would you want that to happen? Pheremones (defined in the wikipedia as "a chemical that triggers an innate response in a member of the same species"; in this case, we're probably looking at sexual attraction, although underarm sweat has also been used to test whether babies can recognize their mothers' smell--they can).

As for leg hair, does it really keep you warmer? Being a guy, I've never tested this by shaving, but I doubt that it does all that much for leg warmth. I'm willing to listen to dissenting opinions.

The hair comes from the hormones in the body. I don't think it keeps the odor in because if it did you would not smell the mush of people who do not use deodorant. We would not need deodorant if the hair controlled the odor. Actually the hair contributes to the odor. I make sure I keep the armpits hairless.

we do get cold in ther that's why when we're cold we tend to put our hand in our armpits, LOL but basically the armpit is part of the skin so it's pretty normal that we will have hair in it too

It's a vestige from an earlier evolutionary period, like the appendix.

I heard somewhere that it lessens friction when you move your arms back and forth.
But I don't really care about friction - I shave them anyways.
