Right when I began studying to become a minister. Once I researched the origins of the bible and Judaism and other religions, I realized that it was totally man made.

I became an agnostic in my late teens, not really caring one way or the other but shunning fundamentalists.
Then in college I spent many years learning about argumentation, logic and debate. I started to realize that all of the arguments for a creator were actually devoid of any logic or reasoning, there was not a single rational reason to believe in god. Then as I learned more about science I realized how ridiculous theistic claims really were, I learned that there is a natural and elegant explanation for most aspects of the universe, and these instill you with a great sense of wonder.
When I finally learned what evolution truly is (instead of the misconceptions touted by religious ignorants), it was breathtakingly obvious and wondrous at the same time, it fits perfectly.
Then I decided to read the bible and the quran as very few people actually do - from cover to cover. Reading these books cemented my atheism, and I really think you'd have to be either very ignorant (and willing to believe no matter what) or very retarded to believe the bible is literal truth or history. Most of my family are scientists and my uncle is an Oxford historian, so I checked on several things, learned about the origins of the bible, and it's really very clear it's all bogus.
I actually became an atheist last year, when I realized that christians and muslims certainly had it wrong, and that a god is so incredibly improbable that it's best to live with the assumption that there isn't one.

About 5 minutes after I realized Santa Claus wasn't real. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see through the sham that is religion. At age 5 I could tell it was all crap.
It is so arrogant for puny little insignificant humans to think that an omnipotent god would spend all of his time and energy on us when he has the vast universe of 14 billion plus light years in all directions.
That would be like the President of the United States spending all of his time completely fascinated with a jar full of fleas.*
(* That statement is only valid as long as G.W. Bush is not included)

I wasn't raised religious. As a reaction to my socialistic upbringing I went looking for god. Didn't find him, just was becoming an conscious atheist, must have been 16 or 17 at the time.

When it was revealed that priests had been molesting children for many decades and God never intervened to stop them, I realized that either God is non-existent or the most disgusting deity in all of History.

When I was about 8 yrs old. I can't fathom the adult mindset that still embraces fables and magice sky fairies.
Quite remarkable..!
Everyday mainstream scientific principles and understandings are verified, and the knowledge base grows.
There is no room for bigoted, ignorant, and selfish deity worship beliefs when enough perspective is used while looking at the natural world..

When God ditched me when I was asking for help with my faith.
If I'm already a believer but going through rough times, and I pray for faith but it still falls away, then the God of the New Testament cannot exist.
