I use anything but "iceberg" lettuce for it has next to no nutritional value compared to ALL other lettuces...However, Im a fresh cracked pepper, virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar fan as a dressing, or any other of the herbal vinegars I make...
Iceberg lettuce contains only a fraction of the vitamins and antioxidants of other lettuce types. For example, iceberg lettuce contains 4-7% of the vitamin A, and from one-half to one-sixth the amount of other vitamins. These experiments will have both immediate and long-term benefits to California agriculture and the overall health or our public by: a) increasing the nutritional value of the most popular lettuce type in the U.S.; b) developing markers that can be used by all lettuce breeders and other researchers working on lettuce; c) increasing our fundamental knowledge about nutritional pathways which may be applied to other lettuce types; d) extending and applying this knowledge to other vegetable crops.

I like leaf lettuce or romaine. Iceburg lettuce just isn't green enough for me. Dressing changes often, but usually ranch.
Sometimes to cut down on the sodium (from dressing) i add spices. Lemon Pepper is my favorite!

Butter lettuce for me. A close second is those packages of wild mixed greens with stuff like frisee. With homemade balsamic dressing and feta and croutons. YUM.

Romaine is by far my fave...but when I went to St. Louis last summer, I had this delicious salad w/ pears and toasted walnuts on a bed of wilted Arugula. It was delish! I would buy it, but I'm not sure what to do with it.

Iceberg is powerful, yet i've got got here upon it oftentimes has little or no "flavor" do no longer you think of? (however the sparkling crunch of it is tremendously cool). My answer would be "green" lettuce -- actual & LOL the two! i won't be able to stand staring at brown (or white) lettuce for terribly long till now I gag. (sorry, in basic terms telling the reality)
