Hey, Yank. Firstly, thanks for the compliment but I'm not a young person. Lighten up, please. My husband is an Atheist. This was meant as a joke. Nothing more.

lol they should.. it's one of the best songs ever sung.. and no, it's NOT a pagan song.. Robert Plant made it very clear that the song is about a woman who gets everything she wants... nothing more to it.

Here's a shameful fact: I don't listen to Led Zep.
Even more shameful: I'm not sure I've heard Stairway to Heaven.

I'm going back under my rock now.

this question is stupid for so many reasons, first of all Atheists are not Satanic, we don't even believe Satan exists, second Stairway to Heaven containing backward messages is total bull, anyone who hears it only heard it because they were looking for it, as for Zeppelin being occultists that isn't true, the guitarist Jimmy Page had an interest in an occultist author but none of the other members had anything to do with the occult and the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven were written by the singer Robert Plant not Jimmy Page

That song is way overrated.

If I'm in the mood for Zep, I chose The Song Remains The Same, Whole Lotta Love, and Kashmir.

Kashmir rocks.

lol it's actually a pagan song : )

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go in case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

edit: kallan - you very well could be right, but it sure sounds pagan to me

Young person, my 'feathers' are ruffled by important matters--such as going 'up' in a title role in the Scottish play. To answer your question, which, believe me, has whiskers, I shall say that atheists are not members of a cult, in short, we are not Christian fundamentalists: we are not bound to numberless rules and fear of numberless 'sins,' or the invisible god of a Bronze Age tribe of murdering desert nomads. We cross the spectrum among human beings, some, in the USA, are conservative, some are liberal, some are straight, some are gay, some are white, some are black, etc., etc. We feel that what a person does in his or her private life is her or his business, whether its choices in music or books or theatre or movies. Your question is a constant one, or questions like it, but I felt you deserved an answer by a lifelong atheist. Now, young person, as to your manners...

Yes. I allow myself free will. Besides I like the song.

Do you allow yourself to listen to "Imagine" by John Lennon?

2007-07-20 07:21:31 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

actually, that song is not about "heaven" as you think

Zep has a well documented history regarding its belief in the occult. I forget them all now but there are references in the song to "The Piper" leading her to reason, etc. In England literature and occult writings, the Piper always referred to the devil. There are other hidden msgs, but i think you get my point.

oh, I am Christian by the way...not aethiest.

LOL

This atheist actually thinks it's one of the most overrated songs ever written. Zeppelin has much better than that in their catalog.

Edit: ReeRee - Kashmir is one of my all time favorites!
