That's a false parallel.

Capital Punishment is the consequence of something someone has done. It is punishment for a crime (obviously). The idea is that X did something so egregious that he must suffer the most severe form of punishment there is. (Note: I do oppose the Death Penalty, but not because I think capital punishment is a sin)

Abortion is regarded as a sin because the baby is an innocent and has committed no crime worthy of being executed for.

Legality has very little to do with whether or not something is a sin.

I am an atheist, so I do not believe it is a sin, but I do feel there are only very small circumstances for it to be okay in. For example, I know someone who has had way to many abortions to even put the number here, and it's like are you serious????? Keep your legs closed or use a fu**ing condom already! That just isn't right at all, b/c then you are taking advantage.

Abortion is the intentional, premeditated taking of another life. It is morally wrong. It is sin.

Capitol punishment is just that; the punishment of one who has committed an act or acts that are so bad, the person needs to be removed from society and made an example of so that others are not likely to follow in their sins.

If it were morally wrong, then God would not have commanded it for certain offences.

Murder is an act with its roots in hatred, or a total lack of love for another.

Depends on who is defining when life starts...

If you define life starting at conception and go by the religious belief that killing a person who has not committed a crime is a sin... then all abortions are sins.

Capital punishment is for CRIMES. What crime did the fetus commit? So you can't compare it to capital punishment.

It is true that the commandment is "Thou shalt not murder" The mistranslation "Thou shalt not kill" is just wrong.

*************

But... you can't legislate morality... unless you want the country to be run by religious extremists and go back to burning witches.
Moral decisions should be left to the individuals.

When people learn that... then civilization will advance again.

According to most religious people it is always a sin, but than again according to most religious people most things we do are sins and if you ask for forgiveness all is fine and dandy, no offence to anyone who’s religious your fully entitled to your beliefs....

However, most people don't think fully about being against abortion. They don't see that any form of birth control, even condoms are away of interfering with the nature of "god's" will. Most birth controls do not prevent an egg from being fertilized; they prevent the egg from sticking to the walls of the uterus. Therefore the fertilized egg is aborted naturally through the body. So to be so against abortions is to be against birth control, which is basically a sociably expected form of abortion.

Capitol Punishment is a ridiculous thought in regards to abortion. Simply put your mother could have had an abortion that you know nothing about and you would see to it that she endures capitol punishment for her decision, for her right to choose??.. I highly doubt that anyone would want his or her mother to be punished for making a choice that might have saved her life...

Note: Everyone is entitled to his or her own thoughts, feelings and opinions.

No I don't think it is. I would say you can't draw a clear line on when the fetus becomes a human, because biologically in the first trimester, it is a clump of cells. I don't think it being a "sin" or not matters unless you are religious. How is it morally right, to force a woman who was raped to have the rapists baby? How is it morally right to ban abortion even if it is done to save the life of the mother, because the pregnancy would kill her." What if the girl is very young and pregnant? It could very easily kill her having the baby young enough. You cannot compare abortion to capital punishment.

I wish the question was that easy... You can't answer that question until you define "life" and put a definate starting point for "life."

Many Christians, if not most, believe that a fetus is alive and that therefore abortion is murder and therefore a sin. But that doesn't hold true for everyone. (See other answers.)

For me, abortion is always a sad thing and, if it can be called "necessary," should be a LAST LAST resort and something that should never be taken lightly. Is it always a sin? I think so, but I also think that it is one that can be forgiven.

Let me ask you this. If when you were a fetus in your mothers womb, and your mother decides to have an abortion, would you know the difference? Would you feel anything physical or emotional? The answer is no, you would never even know. As far as it being a sin, you would have to look into whatever religion(story) you have chose to believe in. Though it has been proven by science that religion is in fact only a way to cope with the fear that the majority of human beings have of being nothing more than matter when they die. You do have your free will so Good Luck in the remainder of your life.

I believe that abortion is wrong. I'm a Christian and according to the Bible, murder- or the taking of a human life, is a sin. Isn't abortion murder? It doesn't matter whether it's legal or not. According to the Bible, any murder is wrong.

No, killing the innocent is always a sin. The state has the right to mete out justice to evildoers. There is a big difference. Just ask a murder victim's family.
