It means the cat is very happy and wants love like some rubbing, scratching it's head in some places, playing, and talking, and relaxing with. That's what it means for me for my cat but if your laying down and the cat is doing it then expect some hits in the head by a paw!

A cat who kneads was taken away from their mother too soon. The kneading was done when they were nursing and is a comfort to them. I adopted my cat from a shelter at five weeks old. She views me as her mother and kneads in my hair while purring.

Cats learn that motion when they nurse from their mother. When your cat does this, pet him and let him climb on you. I do that by lying across the bed. He'll switch from doing it in the air to doing it to you, and that will be good for both of you. He gets the feel of really doing it, and you get a great massage. BTW, cats always pull in their claws when doing this, so it's purr-fectly safe.

It is a display of contentment. Kittens do this to their mother when they nurse. Cats find the motion comforting.

My boyfriend refers to it as "making muffins".

I think they are feeling very comfy. Mine likes to do that on my bed comforter and then will lay down. We call it making biscuits...I think it is so cute though!
