americans are really starting to lack integrity. I blame television and popular culture.

however, i think jefferson said it best, "Of Liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its existence, is unobstructed action according to our will. But Rightful Liberty is within limits drawn around us by the Equal Rights of others. And I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’, because the law is often but the Tyrants-will, and always so when it violates the Rights of an individual." Thomas Jefferson

we need a leader in washington that will restore individual liberty for americans, and make them proud to be americans again. I think that is when you will see a turn in the trends.

Ok for example, there were two teenagers shot recently in a town nearby. The news and the hearsay was all about these two young kids who were shot dead. Not until way later do they report that these two young boys were committing a robbery and were shot. If the law for not robbing someone was obied by these teenagers they wouldn't have been shot. I just hope that the person who shot them doesn't get arrested and put in jail for shooting them. But seeing how everything always gets twisted around these days he'll go to jail for protecting himself...you just can't win in today's world. Following the laws are important and when someone breaks the law there are always others that end up hurt or blamed. We will never have everyone obied by every law, however, the more of us who do the better the world will be. We need to teach our children the rights and wrongs and build a better future for generations to come. It's an uphill battle that we are facing. Look at the world today.......

No you're not the only one, I don't break the law and my worst habit is smoking(trying to quit) which I pay for. I was raised by my mother and grandmother with good morals and values. So much so that when I was 3 or 4 years old, I grabbed a piece of candy from a store(I didn't even understand the concept of stealing at that age so I didn't know I was doing something wrong) as we were walking out. My mother saw it after we got into the car and marched me right back into the store where she insisted we pay for it or put it back. The store people insisted I just keep it but my ma would have no part of that. I raise my son the same way.

For the most part, many people do follow the law with few exceptions. Things like going a little over the speed limit or accidentally not paying for something at the store and not returning are overlooked many times. But in many cases this is because that law is null or moot. If everyone on the road is going 65 mph and the speed limit is 60 mph, many cops will tell you it is safer (and therefor better for everyone) to go with traffic rather then continue going 60. Or if a store accidentally didn't charge you for something, their managers most likely don't care and consider it sort of like a nice perk for continuing to shop at their store. So in other words, there are some laws that are better to follow the intent, rather then the letter. That is what most Americans do now days.

I do all the things you said except I drink (which is legal, but I never drink and drive). And I speed: I tried holding to the speed limit for a while, but it just wasn't practical, I'd be going 60 in the right lane (60 mph speed limit) minding my own business while everyone else does between 65-75 on the left side of the freeway, then some ****** doing 90 and weaving through traffic would come up behind me (using the right lane since that's where the least traffic is) get right on my tail, then pass me and cut me off the first chance he got, I figure its safer to go 70 with the flow of traffic than to go 60 and have people tailgating me and cutting me off all the time.

I'd be in favor of cracking down on speeding but until they do, I'll keep doing what is safest for me and my passengers, which right now means 5-10mph over on the freeway (more like 15-20 over when I visit family in southern California)

I break the law on a regular basis, I don't know if I have some kind of disorder, or what! If someone tells me I can't/shouldn't do something I get an overwhelming urge to do it. I don't always act on these urges, I do think before I act, I mean I'm not gunna go out and kill someone just because I'm not supposed to. But I do like running amuck every now and then and laws will be broken

Kudos to you for livin' a 100% straight life, I am unable to do so, nor would I want to. .

Many people completely disregard the law.

Some draw a line -- for example, they'll speed but not run a red light.

Very few follow every single regulation -- just because there are so many that its almost impossible.

The basic difference, however, is that many people break the law (speeding) but are willing to accept responsibility and the consequences if they do.

Some want to break the law with impunity, because they have no respect for the rule of law.

um ok since when is it illegal to smoke or drink when you are of age, and pay your bills on time instead of early? i dont get it. But to answer your question, this one goes all the way back to Genesis. people break the law....because they can. We all have the choices of free will to deal with everyday of our lives. Now in order to have a society where noone breaks the law. You would have to remove free will with drugs or chemicals or make the laws so absolute jaywalking would carry the death penality. But if you do what you say you do, I wouldn't worrry about it. It will all come back around to you eventually

You are a totally great guy its good that you follow the law in spite of what others do. . Alot of people break the law because it's more convenient to do what they want to do instead of doing what's best.Although you feel like your the only one you are not continue to do the right thing you will be glad in the end.

aren't you a goodie goodie fellow.

I generally agree with you. I do just about all those things, BUT some laws are stupid, and they're just asking to be broken.
There are laws that I have no respect for.
Hitler used laws to get people to hate and abuse jews. What in the hell makes you think that can't ever happen again here in the good ole USA?

Most cops are good and I respect them, but there ARE BAD ONES.
I do not blindly follow all laws. If a law clashes with the law of God, then I piss on that law. I have 0 respect for it.
There you go.
