Hi,
It is really something the western culture does not really follow. Very few women wear a Vail when in prayer. I understand the scriptures. But as the breaking up of the Catholic Church way back in the day.Nuns are really one of the only people that will dress in full cover. Many Protestants do not even know or can comprehend the devotion that this takes. The cover is now viewed as nonessential

Most westerns now believe that God would want us to be more modern in dress. As it states Do not draw attention to yourself. Now all to often girls are allowed to even wear mini skirts and low cut shirts in church. Which is a bit much. But, many churches do not even bow in prayer anymore so that is why they do not see anything wrong with that type of dress.

You will find the select few that do still wear what is called a praying Vail. In which only the head is covered when in prayer. But not full blown head to toe covering as the nuns of the Catholic Church. My muslem sister, It is more essencial that the head be covered when in prayer. But, they do this in privet and not in a mass.

They will often go back to the church and pray. With so many religions many things that are in the bible are over looked and thought of as that is because that was old and modern women do not do as such.. The argument is women or not oppressed by men anymore and are thought of to be the leaders of their very own life.
As far as Mary.
Mary in given the honor she is due. She gave birth to Jesus. She is respected and honored. She to clear the air is NOT worshiped. The Church strongly encourages and recommends devotion to Our Lady. Mary 'occupies a place in the Church which is the highest after Christ and also closest to us.' we are asking her to pray for us and for others. The best and most ancient Marian prayer, the 'Hail Mary' makes it clear that we are asking her to 'pray for us sinners.' We seek her intercessory prayers; we do not seek any action from her acting on her own, since she has no power of her own. In genuine apparitions, Mary has always pointed to Christ.
It does not take anything away from the honor due to Mary when we point out that she is subordinate to Christ, who is both her son and her savior. Christ is divine; Mary is not. Christ is creator; Mary is creature. Christ is true God and true Man. Mary is only human. 'The Church does not hesitate to profess this subordinate role of Mary '.http://www.stjohnsphilly.com/faq/faq22.html

It seemed that you had a two part question. As always,

HEAD COVERING

Aside from being an item of dress, head covering has a spiritual significance among God’s servants in connection with headship and subjection. The apostle Paul sets forth the God-ordained principle of headship operative in the Christian congregation, saying: “The head of every man is the Christ; in turn the head of a woman is the man; in turn the head of the Christ is God.” (1Co 11:3) Paul points out that a head covering is “a sign of authority” that the woman should wear in acknowledging the headship of the man, submitting herself to proper theocratic authority, when she is praying or is prophesying in the congregation.—1Co 11:4-6, 10.

The apostle shows, conversely, that the man should not wear a head covering when taking the lead before the congregation, as when praying or prophesying. It is his normal position under God’s arrangement. For the man to wear a head covering in these instances would bring shame upon his own head. It would also indicate disrespect for Jesus Christ as his head as well as for the Supreme Head, Jehovah God, for man is “God’s image and glory,” originally made as God’s representative on earth. He should not obscure this fact by wearing a head covering. The man was created first, prior to the woman; the woman is “out of man” and was created “for the sake of the man.” Her qualities are an expression of the man’s honor and dignity, just as the man’s qualities are a reflection of the honor and dignity of God. Therefore the Christian woman should be happy to acknowledge her subordinate position by the modesty and subjection she displays, and she should be willing to represent this visibly by wearing a veil or other material as a head covering. She should not try to usurp the man’s place but should, rather, uphold his headship.—1Co 11:4, 7-10.

Mary, the mother of Jesus was a Jew. She followed Jewish law...there is no record of what her practice was after Jesus was Sacrificed and The Church was commissioned. But she probably did continue the "tradition". That dose not make it binding on The Church.

In my view, Christians should worship God and Christ. They should not worship Mary. While she has an important place as the mother of the Savior and should be respected, she still is not God nor Christ.

Just because she is depicted that way doesn't mean she was that way. I follow after no Man. I will not be oppressed because of the vast perversions of others.
