Then last stastics I saw said California. But this didn't include local or city taxes.
I am a tax accountant an hate doing CA taxes because they are so greedy.

However, there is one that I dread even more. It is someone that lives in New York and New York City and Yonkers. Talk about greed...this is the place to find it.

If you want to know about purely state tax I would have to say CA...but if you you want to include what the states allows the counties and cities to add on there are many that exceed that...and none that I can think of are more than my above example for NYC.

It is not a state. It has got to be New York City. New York State has an income tax. New York City has its own income tax. The sales tax rate in New York City is the highest in the state. There are numerous "nuisance" taxes in New York as well. Just stay in a hotel or eat in a restaurant there.

The states with the best tax environments are Wyoming, South Dakota, Alaska, Florida and Nevada, according to an in-depth analysis by the Tax Foundation.

I've lived in quite a few states and I'd have to say Alabama was the worst. They tax EVERYTHING. Besides all the "normal" taxes such as state, city, etc., you get penalized for working in Birmingham but living outside the city limits, you get taxed on all your groceries, alcohol has the highest tax rate in the country, you get taxed on your last years tax returns. The list is endless...

I don't know. I know NJ tax is outrageous. My mother in law lives there. It's got to be on the east coast, or maybe CA?
