I've tried from a completely curious angle, but it's hard to find earlier works. A lot of the old stuff was originally oral tradition that was later transcribed like Genesis. The first part is very poetic and seems to follow the syntax of tale told for centuries and the rest sounds like it was written and committed to paper at once. I think that that's one of the charms of the Bible is it's period of time and many separate tribes and peoples that wrote it. The Jews were not one single united people at the times of the Bible and they spoke many languages and had many religions or interpretations. It's a good question.

No not really. My main aim was to learn Greek, which only took three weeks. My next wish is to learn Hebrew. Aside from that I am busy on my own independent research projects, right now I am waiting to be able to continue research for my first book on America's Christian heritage. I've read all the books at my local college library but now I want to go to the state university libraries and the Library of Congress.
After learning Hebrew and finishing my first book, I will decide what projects to take on then. I am kind of interested in early church history but the books I have thumbed through on the topic were very dull and didn't have much useful information.
I don't ask you to read C.S. Lewis or to read the books by Bruce Metzger.

Why research myths when you can study truth? The word of God has been around far longer than any of your myths. It is also why millions follow truth rather than your myths. We know our history. We prefer not to waste time in man made myth. Otherwise you end up like the guy who posted earlier who claims to have given up his faith because of his studies of myths.
Oh how true Paul's claim about you exchanging truth of God for the lie.

Most I have ever asked this question insisted that the bible was written before those other religions existed.
History is lost on them.

Hmmm. No, they were not. I'm not even going to get into this one again. I've already shown conclusively and historically several times that this baseless and foundationless claim is the silly attempt of people trying to validate their own pagan beliefs by attemting to invalidate the bible and its veracity. Sorry. Try harder.

First of all sweetheart...Where did you get this false information? You should do a lttle research before you make assumptions. The Holy Bible is inspired by God...and I feel good and confident about it.

it does seem as though biblical stories are very similar to ideas of previous religions. most of these are just rehashed versions of the same thing.
although some of the stories in the bible are historically accurate, it cannot be said that they all are!

easter was the god of fertility.....took the form of a rabbit and the eggs represent fertility. We still worship this pagan god but, we do it under the ruse of christianity.
The son of god was a story told for thousands of years before Jesus was born.
"God" himself told his people that never will they worship an idol of any kind, yet every minute of every day, someone is praying to a cross.
Even Christmas is on the wrong day, but since pagan religions already worshipped another god on the 25th of december, that is when the council of nicea determined Jesus' birth was.
Read something other than one book of fiction before you start berating someone for asking an honest question.

Of course I've researched. That's why I'm not ignorant enough to use the words "myths" and "legends" when referring to the Bible. In fact, I don't even use those words when referring to other people's religions because I'm more respectful than that.

God is real Riegan, religion is a fairy tale, read this for a true perspective of those times. Mendeleyev's dream (nearly made me change my career when I read this.)
A definitive answer, the truth rings a bell like no other.
