The infatuation with an afterlife is disrespectful to the legacy one should leave behind in their offspring. A healthy and happy family is the REAL afterlife, and living things may live on through their offspring, be it bacteria, plants or animals.
Considering the evidence that ALL life is related, assigning selective species an afterlife is truly absurd. The claims that only humans can have an afterlife, and then only those that adhere to a particular religious doctrine, should be a clue as to the hypocrisy and bigotry of such self serving and arrogant claims..
You know it makes sense..

No. The most basic criterion for gaining entry into the afterlife is a soul. Animals do not have souls.
Things that separate humans from animals include: Our soul, our awareness of self, our awareness of God, the ability to know right from wrong, to feel guilt, shame, etc.
There are attacks on humanity from so many angles. My 1st grade daughter came home one day to inform me: "Daddy, we're animals." I said, "WHAT?!" She said, "My teacher taught us that we're animals." I went into a loooooooonnnnnnggggggg explanation of the sorts of things that I just described. Then I added: "When you teach kids that they are animals, they will behave like animals." Ironic.
Evolution says that we came from some primordial slime. So, in effect, we are no better than that primordial slime.
Get a Bible and read it. Talk to Christians. Find a good Bible believing church. Pray to God--a God whom you may not even know--for wisdom and guidance.
You are NOT an animal! God set us apart. Find out the rest of the story! It gets better. Lord bless.

LCFL Life Comes From Life
Dr. Singh. Srila Prabhupada, what is the difference between the transmigration of souls in animal bodies and the transmigration of human souls?
Srila Prabhupada. Animals transmigrate in only one direction--upward--but human beings can transmigrate to either a higher or a lower form of life. The body is awarded according to the living entity's desire. The lower animals have one kind of desire, but the human being has thousands and millions of desires--animal desires as well as human desires. By nature's law, the lower species are coming up from animal forms to the higher, human forms. But once you come to the human form, if you don't cultivate Krsna consciousness you may return to the body of a cat or dog.

I have no proof at all . . . . . but I like to think that there is some kind of reward for the animals that have followed us faithfully, giving only love and support, and only asking for the occasional biscuit.

I believe the same thing happens to their spirit as happens to people's spirits - the energy is returned to the Universe.
